Milton Keynes College are working in partnership with HMP Stafford to put education at the heart of the prison system.

We are looking for an experienced part time Barbering lecturer to deliver Barbering to a diverse group of learners within the prison. As part of our offender learning team you will help to develop a strong Barbering programme that meets the needs of the learners, prison and Milton Keynes College.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated education professional to deliver high learner success, through effective teaching and delivery in Barbering. This vacancy would suit a highly motivated Barbering teacher, with a can do approach to education. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and creative lecturer, who can thrive upon working within a challenging yet rewarding environment, who can offer skills & knowledge to our learners and guide them throughout their courses.

The education team in HMP Stafford are highly motivated and take pride in our learner’s success. We work hard to support learners, encourage engagement from reluctant prisoners and aim to offer potential employment opportunities upon release through relevant and up-to-date qualifications. The dedication of the education team in achieving these ambitions, as well as the expectation of high standards and the drive for continued improvement has been recently rewarded with a Grade 2 by Ofsted.

HM Prison Stafford is a Category C National Sex Offender hub housing prisoners from across England and Wales. The Education department works is partnership with the prison to deliver provision to support prisoners as they prepare for release. As well as delivery in the main Education and Vocational Training Department, courses are offered in Workshops and Kitchens, as well as Functional Skills outreach as required.

As a successful candidate you will have:

  • Hold a vocational qualification (level 3 or above) in Barbering.
  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) or working towards.
  • Hold relevant assessor/verifier awards.
  • Have teaching/training or vocational experience in Barbering and relevant up-to-date knowledge.
  • Have a proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of learners through nationally accredited programmes.
  • Have experience of identifying, developing and sharing innovative and creative teaching resources
  • Have experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
  • Have knowledge of current curriculum and accreditation developments within Further Education and specific subject area(s).
  • Have the ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of a variety of learners and willing to explore new teaching and learning strategies.
  • Have good IT skills and willing to develop further.
  • Show accuracy and precision in written presentation.

Location: HMP Stafford

Hours: 24 hours per week (Morning delivery only), 52 weeks per year

Salary: £18,015 - £32,578 per annum, pro rata
