Would you like to play a key role in shaping the future of transport in Greater Manchester, as part of a team that is trialling world-leading solutions to overcome long-standing transport issues? Would you enjoy the challenge of working in a dynamic environment to turn future mobility ideas into reality?

TfGM oversees transport in Greater Manchester, delivering and improving transport services, facilities and information to make travel easier for everyone. We deliver high-profile, large-scale transport projects, and work with our Greater Manchester partners to develop and deliver long-term transport strategy for the City-Region (our Greater Manchester Transport Strategy for 2040). This is a busy and exciting time for us: under the devolution agreement and with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity in the UK’s largest regional economy outside London

The Innovation Team is responsible for working with a range of local, national and international partners to explore how new mobility solutions can improve travel in Greater Manchester and help to deliver a healthier, greener and more integrated transport system. It also works with colleagues from across TfGM to explore how new modes, models and services could enhance or change the way that we work, helping to embed a culture of innovation across the organisation. From Connected Autonomous Vehicles to Mobility-as-a-Service and Smart City trials, the innovation team has helped to establish TfGM as one of the most pioneering transport authorities in the UK.

Due to the success of the Innovation Team within the Transport Strategy Directorate, we are now seeking a Senior Innovation Officer to develop and deliver existing and new innovation projects. This role will involve a range of activities, including: identifying potential innovative solutions that support the ambitions of our 2040 Transport Strategy; identifying and bidding for funding to test priority new mobility solutions; developing and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships to support the delivery of an effective innovation programme; delivering complex projects to time and to budget; and undertaking management tasks, including some line management responsibility and providing input to Transport Strategy’s “Wider Management Team”.

As a Senior Innovation Officer, you will be an effective communicator, able to engage with and influence stakeholders (at all levels) and build effective working relationships with public and private sector partners. You will be able to communicate the work of the team to different audiences to maximise the impact of innovation projects and to help translate them into “business as usual” activity where appropriate. You will have sound project management skills; able to manage complex and fast-paced projects to ensure successful delivery.

The salary for this role is £49,880 - £56,144 per annum salary on appointment will be dependent on your skills and experience. In return, as well as a competitive salary, we also offer a range of fantastic benefits, such as:

  • Free Rail or Metrolink travel to and from work within the Greater Manchester boundary
  • Free bus travel within Greater Manchester
  • 27 days holiday per annum
  • Access to the local government pension scheme

At TfGM we encourage candidates to discuss flexible working options at any stage of the recruitment process.

We welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.  We are actively building a diverse workforce and want to create an inclusive environment as we recognise the importance of our workforce reflecting the communities we serve.

If you are excited by the prospect of this role and have the skills and experience we are seeking, we would really like to hear from you!

Please note that we intend to shortlist candidates before Christmas and hold interviews w/c 6th January 2020.
