Purpose of Job

At the outset of the COVID-19 crisis, our members came to us wanting to understand how they could best help those most in need. We rapidly responded by establishing the National Business Response Network, connecting national and local community groups, small businesses, local authorities and charities with businesses and brands who can offer support.

This role is to create long-term transformational change in communities. This will be achieved by forming a partnership made up of senior leaders from the voluntary, business and public sector (including local councils and local enterprise partnerships) who will work to develop and agree a joint plan, collectively securing the necessary resource to deliver the plan, with a view to achieving improvements in education, employment and community cohesion.

The role requires a driven and tenacious individual capable of building trust, collaboration and partnerships.

Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Stakeholder engagement

  • Forming strategic relationships with senior representatives from business, local government, local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) voluntary and community organisations, and industry bodies with the view of forming cross-sector partnerships.
  • Engaging both BITC members and non-members to provide support to communities in need across the place.
  • Develop a deep understanding, and map of the community and the role of business in creating long term sustainable change.
  • Engage key stakeholders (e.g. local businesses, local government, government departments, charities, Chambers of Commerce) who can contribute support and resource (time, money, skills, knowledge) in the social regeneration of the local community.

Business development

  • Engage companies into our work in the place and build awareness of BITC, in order to build a pipeline of new BITC members based on being a ‘relevant’ organisation working on priority issues.
  • Identifying and securing financial support from business, local government, trusts and foundations to enable action on priority issues.

Driving action

  • Drive action on key issues in the place, with strategic support from the Place Directors.
  • Securing support from both BITC members and non-BITC members to meet community needs both during the continued response to, and long-term recovery from, COVID-19.
  • Ensure that needs of community organisations are being met through the partnerships that are being created.

Profile raising

  • Securing speaking opportunities at regional events for relevant BITC representatives to help raise the organisation’s profile in the place.
  • Raise the awareness of the role of business in creating long term change through regional press, television, radio, and regional influencers.

Responsibility of all roles

  • Ensure that health and safety and safeguarding requirements are met in the areas for which the jobholder is responsible.

The post holder may be required to carry out other duties that are reasonably to be considered as within the scope and purpose of the job and the aptitudes of the job holder.

This job description reflects the current requirements of the post. As duties and responsibilities change and develop due to changes in organisational and other circumstances, so the actual duties and responsibilities will vary from the particulars of this job description.

Special working conditions

  • Regular travel across the region/nation will be required.
  • Attending evening and early morning events will be required.
  • Regular travel to London (approximately every two months) will be required.
