The Wedgwood Collection is one of the most important industrial collections in the world and a unique record of over 250 years of British ceramic production. Now part of the V&A following a successful fundraising campaign spearheaded by the Art Fund, it is on display and in storage at the V&A Collection at World of Wedgwood, Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent, on long-term loan from the V&A. It is housed in the Wedgwood Museum, winner of the Art Fund Prize 2009, as part of the World of Wedgwood. The Museum is run by the V&A in collaboration with Fiskars Group.
The V&A is currently recruiting for the post of Assistant Curator for the V&A Collection at World of Wedgwood. The Wedgwood Collection is curated and managed by a dedicated team led by a Chief Curator and two further World of Wedgwood staff, in consultation with the V&A in South Kensington. Colleagues from both museums work closely together to care for the Collection, building on existing relationships between the two organisations. Essential collections management and documentation work is planned over the next few years to enable further public access and research, including the development of a touring exhibition and associated publication. Candidates are encouraged to learn about this collection from the V&A website
www.vam.ac.uk and the World of Wedgwood website.
This fixed term post is funded by Art Fund to enable essential collections management and research on the Wedgwood collection, facilitate increased public knowledge and enjoyment of the collection and support the development skills in ceramics curatorship.
The successful candidate will be involved in wide-ranging projects at the Wedgwood Collection. It is expected that the post-holder will spend time, especially during the first year, at the V&A (South Kensington, London) for personal development, training and project meetings. The post-holder will report to the Chief Curator V&A Collection at World of Wedgwood and will be supported and mentored by the ceramics curators and documentation and collections management staff at the V&A.
Please note that candidates who are invited for an interview will be asked for an example of the written/published work.
Closing date for receipt of applications is 11:59pm Sunday 8 March 2020.
Interviews to be held on 18 March 2020, at V&A Collection at World of Wedgwood in Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent.
