  • To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.
  • To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for pupils studying in the Faculty, in accordance with the aims of the academy and the curricular policies determined by the Governing Body and Principal.
  • To be accountable for leading, managing and developing the faculty.
  • To manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the faculty effectively to support the faculty development plan.
  • Use performance and assessment data to raise pupil attainment and achievement.
  • Ensure that where pupils are not making expected progress faculty staff take swift and appropriate action to address the issues (especially those identified as belonging to vulnerable groups)
  • Liaise with other staff including Learning Support staff over pupils needing additional help, including those who are very able, implementing where appropriate EHCPs and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Be responsible for pupil performance within the faculty, supporting other staff in the pursuit of excellence and the promotion of academy curriculum and behaviour policies.
  • Liaise with parents, as necessary and in accordance with academy reporting policies, regarding the progress and performance of their children.
  • Hold regular team meetings in order to analyse individual student/group performance & agree appropriate interventions.
  • Ensure that the academy’s policies for AfL and Checking and Marking are being followed and that there are adequate subject records for each pupil taught by the Faculty.  Ensure that pupils’ work is marked on a regular basis in line with academy policy.
  • Wherever setting of pupils by ability is faculty policy, ensure that pupils are placed in groups which allow them to make maximum progress.
  • Maintain the subject trajectory and ensure that intervention, support and challenge is issued as demand dictates.
  • Develop and review syllabuses, resources, schemes of learning and teaching and learning strategies in the faculty.  This to include significant focus on assessment for learning, homework and intervention strategies to support individual needs and progress.
  • Liaise with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure the delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality and cost-effective curriculum which complements the Academy Improvement Plan.
  • Be accountable for the delivery of the faculty’s curriculum.
  • Keep up to date with and respond to national developments in the subject areas and teaching practice and methodology.
  • Work with the Assistant Principal responsible for Teaching and Learning to ensure that staff development needs are identified and that appropriate programmes are designed to meet such needs.
  • Be responsible for the efficient and effective deployment of the faculty’s support staff.
  • Make appropriate arrangements for classes when staff are absent, ensuring appropriate cover within the Faculty, liaising with the cover supervisor/relevant staff to secure appropriate cover.
  • Participate in the academy’s ITT programme.
  • Establish common standards of practice within the faculty and develop the effectiveness of teaching and learning styles.
  • Contribute to the academy procedures for lesson observation.
  • Work with the Senior Leadership Team in order to ensure that the faculty's teaching commitments are effectively and efficiently time-tabled and roomed.
  • Intervene to provide appropriate support where poor behaviour is affecting teaching, learning and progress of students and liaise with BEST team as appropriate.
  • Be familiar with Health and Safety policy. Ensure that relevant Risk Assessments within the faculty comply with National requirements.
  • Ensure that the Faculty accommodation is a safe, tidy and attractive working environment with up to date displays.
  • Inspect the Faculty accommodation on a regular (weekly) basis to identify safety concerns and liaise with the Premises Manager to ensure timely rectification.
  • Maintain the Faculty Asset Register as part of an efficient stock control system and use this to identify and where necessary arrange for the replacement of equipment which reaches the end of its safe working life.
  • Be familiar with the Academy Safeguarding Policy and procedures, advise staff on safeguarding matters and report any concerns to the Senior Designated Person or Alternate.
  • Ensure provision of all Faculty resources for learning, equipment, instruments and apparatus.
  • Ensure the appropriate use of Information Technology to assist teaching and learning and following the academy’s e-safety and ICT policies.
  • Maintain the Quality Assurance File to constantly assess standards within the faculty.  Ensure standards are correct with moderation as appropriate.
  • Promote teamwork and motivate staff to ensure effective working relations.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day management of staff within the faculty and act as a positive role model.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of staff in line with the Academy’s Appraisal/Performance Management policy.
  • Induct newly appointed staff (in conjunction with the appointed member of the SLT with responsibility for the induction of new staff).
  • Liaise with the Vice Principal responsible for Staff Development to provide a programme of CPD for individual staff and the faculty team, as and when necessary, in order to improve standards within the faculty.
  • Monitor and define the work of responsibility holders in the faculty and ensure that the work is carried out. 
  • Initiate and lead all faculty meetings, and provide accurate minutes which should be distributed to the relevant members of staff.
  • Advise the Principal of budget needs for the following year. Manage the Faculty Cost Centre providing spending plans which ensure value for money in line with Academy Policy.
  • Liaise with the examinations officer and Academy Manager for the provision of arrangements for examinations.
