We are looking to employ a maintenance assistant to join our dedicated maintenance team based in Sandy, Bedfordshire. The role is varied, and responsibilities include lifting and shifting, repair work, painting, recycling paper, cardboard and metal and assisting other members of the team.
You would be site based at RSPB’s UK headquarters in Sandy in Bedfordshire, with occasional visits to our warehouse in Bedford.
What's the role about?
The successful applicant will assist the maintenance team in office moves and refurbishments. This will include moving chairs, desks and cabinets as well as repainting offices as part of an on-going maintenance program. Weekly and monthly site inspections will be carried out around the site, and the results entered onto spreadsheets.
They will assist the maintenance engineer with building, plumbing and electrical repairs, and be competent in the use of power tools. They should have a good working knowledge of health and safety.
Other responsibilities include maintaining outdoors areas including path and car park sweeping, cleaning bins and snow clearance when necessary.
They will also keep tools in good working order, and keep workshop areas, working compound and tool shed clean and tidy.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
Experience in a commercial maintenance role
Painting
Use of hand tools
Health and safety awareness
Basic computer literacy
Be able to move heavy objects
Ability to work in a team
Good time management
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
Trade qualification, e.g. for electricity, plumbing, carpentry, building
Experience in a practical role
This is a Permanent Full-Time role for 37.5 hours per week.
