We now have an exciting new role for an outstanding Social Media Content Specialist to join the zoo’s Media and PR team to create engaging and inspiring content for a wide range of social media and digital platforms.
The role:

Social media is integral to the zoo’s communications plan and our worldwide reputation. You’ll create and publish highly engaging, inspiring and powerful content to support us in our mission to prevent extinction.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Helping to manage the zoo’s main social media accounts
- Producing world class social media content
- Delivering creative and highly engaging social media campaigns
- Developing new audiences for the zoo, exploiting currently underutilised social media channels, including Tik-Tok and YouTube
- Maintaining high levels of social media engagement
- Managing a social media content plan, in line with the zoo’s PR and marketing plans, to encompass a range of activities, including promoting events, animal stories, fundraising, conservation news and encouraging people to take up the zoo’s commercial offerings
- Reacting to breaking news at the zoo, or responding to trends, to create compelling social media content that builds online audiences, drives visits to the zoo, raises awareness of our brand, enhances our global reputation and highlights our mission
- Advising colleagues on best social media practice to help the zoo to achieve its communications, commercial, conservation, science and education objectives
- Creating content to be issued alongside press releases to help generate global media coverage for the zoo – raising its profile and enhancing its reputation.
The successful candidate will have:
- Top notch video editing and content creation skills, using Adobe Creative Suite and packages such as Premiere Pro, Lightroom and Photoshop (or equivalent)
- Expert knowledge of producing compelling content for a host of social media channels
- An ability to build audiences on platforms ranging from Tik-Tok to LinkedIn
- A track record of generating high levels of engagement among large online communities, preferably for a globally renowned brand(s)
- Know-how and experience of retail / commercial functionality in-built into various platforms (such as the Facebook and Instagram Stores) to help us drive important additional revenue for our charity zoo
- Experience and knowledge of using paid-for social media
- Excellent copywriting and communication skills and be bursting with ideas
- A relevant degree in media, communications or filmmaking, or proven success working in a similar role
- While video editing skills are essential to the role, videography and photography skills and an understanding of how to utilise camera equipment to capture great content is highly desirable, but not essential.
Your working hours will be 40 hrs per week, predominately 8:30am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, with a 30 minute lunch break. Weekend and evening working may sometimes be needed to cover social media requirements, for which time in lieu will be provided. Much of the work will be based at the zoo, but there is some flexibility in this role and time may be split between office and remote working.
