We are looking for an Assistant Curator (FuturePlan) to join the V&A Museum of Childhood.
The V&A is undertaking a major capital project, which will see the V&A Museum of Childhood (MoC) transformed into a world-leading museum of design and creativity for children, families and young people.
In order to achieve the aims and objectives of this ambitious, trailblazing project and unlock new areas for public appropriation in the future building, the MoC is preparing for a major collection move in 2020. All 30,000 objects which are displayed and stored on site in Bethnal Green will be moved to a temporary location, before the stored collections are moved to a new Collections and Research Centre in the Queen Elizabeth Park, alongside the wider V&A collections. For the first time, public access to our internationally significant collections will be significantly increased, providing facilities for visitors and researchers.
As an Assistant Curator you will perform a vital role by supporting the museum and curatorial team during this exciting period for the museum. As a member of the curatorial team, you will apply your professional knowledge and expertise to provide curatorial support to the Museum’s Collections Departments and to Museum projects, effectively liaising with various colleagues across the organisation, including Conservation, Interpretation, Technical Services, Documentation, Learning, and Collections Management Services. Assistant Curators are key members of the team and are expected to develop a knowledge of and commitment to the collections in their care.
Closing date for receipt of applications is 01 December 2020 at 23.59.
Please note this role is open to internal V&A applicants only. The salary for the role will dependent on contractual terms and will be confirmed to you at application, or selection stage. Please note, preference will be given to any applications from employees currently at risk of redundancy.
