Milton Keynes College have an opportunity for a creative and innovative Art Lecturer who can deliver exciting and engaging art classes to learners based in the prison at HMP Swaleside.

As an Art Lecturer, you will be delivering accredited and non-accredited Level 1 and 2 courses. The art department is located in the main education building, and is a lovely, spacious teaching and learning area, purposely designed for art delivery.  The art department has a wealth of resources and tools.

HMP Swaleside enables and supports learners to enter extra-curricular art projects such as Koestler and internal exhibitions. Art is very popular at Swaleside and is highly promoted by the Governor.

Milton Keynes College is passionate about reducing re-offending by providing learners with qualifications and skills that they can apply to employment whilst in custody and upon release. We would like you to be part of the learner’s journey, offering your skills and knowledge to guide them throughout their courses.

ABOUT HMP SWALESIDE

Swaleside is a category B Long Term High Security prison for males. It is located on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent with an operational capacity is 1112. Core values include building a rehabilitative culture and reducing re-offending. Swaleside has a broad education curriculum with future plans for growth.

The curriculum at HMP Swaleside is broad. The prison delivers Functional Skills Maths and English, Hospitality, Business Studies, IT, Employability, Nutrition, Art, Food Safety and Catering, Music, History and Literature as well as theory of engineering and drama. The prison is also hoping to expand the education curriculum in the future to include subjects such as barbering and web design.

The education regime is 8.15am – 11.30am and 1.45pm – 4.30pm Monday to Thursday. Fridays are 8.15am – 11am.

The education department consists of spacious classrooms with excellent facilities, the environment strongly reflects a college rather than a prison.
