•    Part Time – 32.5 Hours per week
•    Term Time plus 1 week

The Short Stay School for Norfolk is a single countywide institution which meets the needs of a diverse cohort of vulnerable and challenging young people from nine physical locations. The majority of our young people have been permanently excluded from school and are preparing for an onward transition to a new school or specialist provision.
A fixed term Teaching Assistant post has been created for the academic year through COVID catch up funding to support the SENCO of the Unity Education Trust (Specialist Provision). The role will involve the completion of Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP) applications for submission to the Local Authority, which are a statutory document that provides a framework for supporting the Special Educational Needs/Disabilities (SEND) of a child or young person. The SENCO will provide training and guidance to ensure that the successful candidate will have a secure knowledge of the:

•    EHCP application process
•    Types of information and evidence required
•    Administrative systems (electronic) that that support the application process
•    Requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
This exciting and rewarding role will give the successful applicant the opportunity to work in a very unique educational setting (Short Stay School for Norfolk -SSSfN) that provides a short-term educational placement for pupils in Norfolk without a mainstream placement. Within SSSfN there are schools located throughout Norfolk in Norwich, King’s Lynn and Gorleston.  The job role will be based at our Hooper Lane School, however the successful applicant will be expected to travel to other school sites on a regular basis to gather evidence for the application.

The following skills are essential:

•    Excellent communicator, both orally and via technology.
•    Excellent standard of written communication, literacy and ICT skills.
•    Ability to interact confidently with all stakeholders including pupils, parents/carers and professionals within education as well as externally.
•    Ability to manage time and prioritise workload.
•    Motivated.
•    Able to drive.
The following skills are desirable, but not essential:
•    Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (Chap 6 – Schools).
•    Interest in Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND).
•    Experience of working with children and young people.
