The Archives section of the V&A is responsible for institutional records and archives management and for archive collections - principally the Archive of Art and Design and Theatre and Performance archives, together with the archive collections of Young V&A. Occupying over 8km of shelving, the collections encompass archives of over 1000 individuals and organisations relating to art, design, performance and the history of the museum. This is an exciting time to join the team, following the merger In 2021 of the integrated Archives Section and the National Art Library under the V&A Research Institute. The new department is responsible for research programmes, and for facilitating and enhancing access to the V&A’s archival and library research resources.

We are seeking an Archivist who will be based permanently at V&A South Kensington, working with institutional records and archives in the V&A Archive and Registry team. The Archivist will deliver high-quality records management advice and services, and develop, care for and provide access to the V&A Archive, whose holdings are both paper-based and electronic. The post holder will provide a vital service for museum staff and the public, and will work actively with the Senior Archivist to shape the future of records and information governance at the V&A.

The successful candidate will have some professional, post-qualification experience of archives and records management work, ideally in a comparable institution, and up-to-date knowledge of professional and technological developments in records and archives management and preservation. We are also looking for good interpersonal and consultative skills, and the ability to communicate knowledge to a wide range of audiences.

Closing date for receipt of applications is Sunday 27 March 2022 at 23:59.
