School Counsellor

Grade/SCP: Band 6 SCP 25-29

Hours: 25 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Contract: Maternity cover until May 2023

Start Date: 1st September 2022

We are looking to appoint an experienced and qualified school counsellor to deliver counselling services to students experiencing a wide range of emotional problems, providing advice and guidance to parents, carers and the school. The person appointed will hold a relevant counselling or psychotherapy qualification and experience of working in a similar role with young people would be advantageous. The successful candidate will understand mental health issues and have the ability to develop therapeutic relationships with a calm and reassuring nature. Your positive attitude and ability to engage and encourage young people will be essential, as will your ability to work flexibly to meet their individual needs?

The role is primarily to provide one to one counselling to pupils as referred by the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), maintain appropriate secure records and provide consultation to the DSL. The School Counsellor is expected to liaise with the pastoral team, including Head's of Year, work in consultation with the School's child protection policies and network with external agencies as and when required.??

The successful candidate will preferably be experienced in a school setting and hold a Professional Diploma (Counselling) and accreditation/registration with BACP, or UKCP which are also required.?
