Location: Rathlin Island
Salary: £8.72 - £9.03 Per Hour
Benefits: Pension, Life Assurance, 26 days Annual Leave
At our Rathlin West Light Seabird centre we are looking for two enthusiastic casual Visitor Experience Assistants to help inspire and enthuse our visitors by explaining about breeding seabirds, including puffin, guillemot, kittiwake, razorbill and fulmar. As a Visitor Experience Assistant, you will help provide a welcoming experience for our visitors and always ensure the highest customer service needs are met.

At the Seabird Centre, our visitors can enjoy close-up views of Northern Ireland's biggest seabird colony, congregating in their thousands to breed from late April to July. However, we don't want just the spectacle of the wildlife to excite our visitors; we want our staff to as well. You will help support the Visitor Experience Manager and Visitor Experience officers in the day to day running of the visitor centre and events throughout the season.
This role is for a 6-month fixed term contract from 29th March 2021 until the end of September 2021. This role is a casual position, so hours will be dependant on business requirements.

What’s the role about?
  • Helping to manage the overall visitor experience from arrival to departure as required
  • To inspire the public to join the RSPB, ensuring that agreed membership recruitment targets and KPIs are achieved
  • Ensuring the visitor centre is delivering the highest standard of customer care
  • Communicate using RSPB brand values and guidelines to ensure that the RSPB brand is presented consistently and correctly
  • Ensuring the visitor centre, visitor facilities and equipment are maintained and presented to a high standard
  • Help support the team at events throughout the season
  • Have a passion for the visiting breeding seabirds and the uniqueness of Rathlin island, and being confident in communicating this effectively to our visitors, in turn helping to inspire return visits
What we need from you?
  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
  • Enthusiastic approach to work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workloads and multitask effectively
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work on own initiative
  • Understanding of safe working practice
  • Ability to manage and respond quickly and positively to customer needs and feedback
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • Ability to work as part of a team
If you love nature and are passionate about wildlife, excellent customer service and are excited about inspiring visitors about Rathlin island and the work of the RSPB then this role will be perfect for you.

We particularly welcome applications from those who reside on Rathlin island or in local areas.

Please note that this vacancy is subject to the current Covid restrictions, and therefore may be subject to change.
