HMP Whatton’s education department are looking for an experienced administrator who will provide student support as a member of our offender learning education team on a Fixed Term contract until May 2019. As a successful candidate, you will be responsible for all general administrative tasks, ensuring the efficient operation of the education department.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

Collating and analysing data
Creating and maintaining filing systems
Designing and production of documents
Use of appropriate databases and spreadsheets
Administer the exams process
Booking learners into the department.

The purpose of this role as Student Support Administrator is to provide administrative support to the Education Manager and the team, to ensure students are enrolled onto appropriate programmes of learning. You will also act as part of the examination officer team.

About HMP Whatton:

HMP Whatton is a leading prison for the treatment of male sex offenders and is nationally recognised for its programmes to reduce re-offending; CALM, Thinking Skills, Relationship, Sex Offender Treatment Programme (SOTP) and the Adapted SOTP (for offenders with a low IQ who are often unable to read or write or have severe mental health difficulties). Only offenders willing to attend the Sex Offender Treatment Programmes (SOTP) and with six months remaining on their prison sentence are sent to HMP Whatton and new receptions are received from all over the country.

The education department at HMP Whatton administrates over 2000 enrolments per year and supports over 500 learners to achieve their learning goals and employment aspirations. The education department currently enjoys a 93% success rate across all of its courses. A broad curriculum is offered to support prisoners to gain Functional Skills in English and maths, employability skills and independent living skills. Our new Self Employment Academy provides courses that enable offenders to move into self-employment upon release. Many courses are embedded into the prison workshops enabling prisoners to gain a qualification through on-the-job training.

As a successful candidate, you will:

Good basic general education including GCSE (or) equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade C or above.
Hold an administration or customer services based qualification at level 2 or above (desirable).
Have proven previous experience in an administrative role.
Have proven customer services skills and experience.
Experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
Good IT skills with experience of word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and internet systems.
Experience of induction and assessment IT packages (desirable).
Accuracy and precision in written presentation.
