Transport for the North (TfN) is set to be the first Sub-National Transport Body in England and is establishing itself as a leading edge organisation, mapping the way for other regions to follow. The organisation is underpinned and supported by a collaborative Partnership representing political and business leaders from all areas of Northern England, working together with the Department for Transport, Highways England, Network Rail and HS2 Ltd.

 

TfN is developing an integrated, multi-modal Strategic Transport Plan which will set long-term sequenced investment priorities. The organisation and its Partnership share a vision to improve the frequency, capacity and resilience of the North’s transport system to make it easier for people and goods to move throughout the region. In doing so, we want to create a globally competitive environment that can sustain economic growth for decades to come.

 

TfN is currently relying on a combination of support from its’ partners (primarily Transport for Greater Manchester) to provide its Health & Safety framework, policies, procedures, processes and support services, across its two main offices which located in Manchester and Leeds.

 

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), on behalf of TfN, is looking to recruit a part time Health & Safety Manager in support of TfN’s evolving legally compliant Health and Safety Management Framework, which includes a Health and Safety Strategy and underlying policies, procedures, management processes and systems. This is a part time role - 12 hours/week.

 

The Health & Safety Manager will provide the expertise in Health and Safety and ensure that Transport for the North (TfN) continues to meet all legislative and statutory responsibilities and obligations whilst adopting best practice principles and administering clear direction on safety across the organisation.  

 

The successful candidate will manage response to proposed and actual changes in statutory and regulatory legislation to advise, develop and implement effective Health & Safety programmes for TfN.

 

What we’re looking for:

 

The successful candidate will have demonstrable relevant Health & Safety experience at a manager level within a similar organisation. They will have extensive working knowledge, and experience of establishing and maintaining health and safety systems and achieving 3rd party certification of the system to a known standard i.e. BS OHSAS 18001:2007

 

Experience in the collection and analysis of complex data and the preparation of management reports to senior managers, along with a high-level knowledge of and practical experience in the application of health and safety legislation is a key essential attribute to be successful in this role.

 

Provisional Interview Date: 18 th January 2018 in our Leeds Office.
