Fixed term 2 year contract
Based at Blythe House

The Museum is currently preparing for a major collections move from its current storage facility at Blythe House to a new Collections and Research Centre, which will enable great increased public access to our internationally significant collections, providing facilities for visitors and researchers.

We are now recruiting for the post of Assistant Curator in the Asian Department specifically to help the Department prepare objects at the Blythe House store for the move and then to provide collections management and location tracking support during the move.

The post will be based between Blythe House, the V&A’s collection store and public research facility in West Kensington, London, and South Kensington. You will work as a dedicated decant project team member within the Asian Department. The role offers an excellent opportunity to work on a large-scale collections move project, to develop your experience of collections management and care, and to be exposed to the major reserve collections from the Middle East, South and South-east Asia and East Asia.

This full time, fixed 2-year post will play an important role in assisting with the decant of Asian Department objects from Blythe House. You will work closely with Asian Department curators to audit, rehouse, photograph and barcode objects. Your work will be hands on with collections, working across a wide range of different types of objects, and you will assist with cataloguing and numbering queries as required.

During the move you will provide documentation support to ensure that object locations are accurately maintained and provide support as needed to the Asian Department. This essential work will help ensure that the Asian collections are moved safely and with reliable location information.

Interviews to be held on 12 December 2018
