Purpose of the role

To work alongside the Assistant Headteacher and Directors of Culture in order to develop the culture and climate of students within the years 7-10.

To raise achievement and ensure students make strong progress.

To own the behaviour and culture within a year group, drive improvements and ensure that systems and routines related to achievement are effectively monitored and utilised.

To ensure that all students act with positivity and fairness in line with the ethos and values of the school.

To model practice for all students in the Academy.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and manage the Routines and Structures provided by the school in order to establish a strong culture of achievement in their year group.
  • Maintain a positive ethos within their year group.
  • Develop the culture of achievement.
  • Ensure that positive relations are maintained with the community;
  • Take a lead role in IAG, careers and/ attendance for their year group;
  • Monitor the academic progress of pupils within classes and implement appropriate strategies to address underachievement;
  • To assess, record and report on the progress and attainment of all pupils within subjects;
  • To monitor the appropriateness and completion of homework;
  • Manage pupil behaviour within the year group both within and outside of school premises, and apply appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour;
  • Undertake critical self-evaluation and then participate in continuous professional development designed to enhance the quality of teaching or other working practices.
  • To address any issues concerned with the wellbeing, personal development and academic progress of pupils;
  • To check uniform and general appearance; and
  • To monitor the behaviour and academic performance of pupils as directed.
