Are you seeking an opportunity to help co-ordinate long-term transport strategy in the fastest growing city region outside of London? Transport for Greater Manchester’s Transport Strategy Function is seeking a Portfolio Manager to co-ordinate the range of projects and programmes it is currently delivering in support of the Greater Manchester 2040 Transport Strategy (see www.tfgm.com/2040).

You will be working directly to our Transport Strategy Director and the senior management team, to co-ordinate the effective and efficient delivery of a host of exciting transport strategy projects. This includes the development of transport infrastructure proposals to support the delivery of over 225,000 new homes and 200,000 new jobs over the next 20 years; development of a clean air plan to tackle air pollution across the conurbation; new proposals to expand our public transport and cycling and walking networks (including Metrolink expansion, delivery of HS2 and new cycle lane provision); and the trialling of exciting new transport technology such as driverless vehicles.

You will have significant experience in managing complex projects and programmes, and be a skilled and enthusiastic communicator, with a proven track-record of working proactively with senior managers and their teams to deliver great results. You will need excellent stakeholder engagement skills and good political awareness. An understanding of the transport and urban policy context in Greater Manchester and experience of working in a public sector environment would be desirable.

In return, as well as a competitive salary, TfGM offers you a range of fantastic benefits, such as:

  • Free bus travel within Greater Manchester
  • Rail or Metrolink travel to and from work
  • 27 days holiday per annum
  • Access to the local government pension scheme
  • If you believe you have the skills and experience we’re looking for we would really like to hear from you!

At TfGM we encourage candidates to discuss flexible working options at any stage of the recruitment process.

The salary range for this role is £47,803 to £53,806.  Salary on appointment will be dependent upon your skills and experience.

We welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.  We are actively building a diverse workforce and want to create an inclusive environment as we recognise the importance of our workforce reflecting the communities we serve.
