Reports to: Senior Travel Trade Manager

Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG) encompasses the National Maritime Museum (NMM), the Royal Observatory (ROG), Cutty Sark (CS) and the Queen’s House (QH). These four world-class attractions sit at the heart of maritime Greenwich in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Attracting over 2.8 million visitors each year, RMG is one of London’s top 10 visitor attractions, and the place to discover sea and space exploration, pioneering architecture, art and royal history.

Job purpose:

To deliver the sales strategy to increase admissions income and visitor numbers for Royal Museums Greenwich’s Travel Trade business. The travel trade team currently generates income and attract international and domestic visitors to RMG, currently equating to over £1.5 million in admissions and 250k trade and group visits each year. The post-holder will be a travel trade expert, with knowledge and experience of both the UK and overseas inbound tourism markets.

Main responsibilities

  • Deliver the travel trade sales strategy, ensuring that existing clients are selling all RMG products and identifying new clients and markets to grow the business.
  • Drive proactive sales, creating and following up on leads, negotiating deals, and setting and meeting sales targets. Continuously monitor the effectiveness and profitability of existing clients.
  • Foster relationships with international trade partners (currently representing circa 65% of all visits), cruise ship operators, and other Greenwich/London attractions. Propose deals with these potential clients, to maximise income for Royal Museums Greenwich.
  • Build relationships with key trade and tourism organisations including UKinbound, ETOA, and Visit Greenwich, to gain information to inform our activities and maximising any joint business opportunities.
  • Work with the Senior Travel Trade Manager to ensure our offer for groups and trade is reflecting the market’s needs. Deliver sales for the current product list as well as annually reviewing all products.
  • Working with our specialist agency, to maintain the Chinese market. Monitor the agency sales KPIs supporting them with information, and pricing required to meet the needs of the Chinese market.
  • Deliver regular business reports, with clear analysis and proactive recommendations to drive growth.
  • Monitor and evaluate any changes to external tourism and travel market conditions, competitor activity and benchmarking, as well as performance. Proactively suggest responsive changes to the long term strategy.
  • Deliver presentations to our clients and host educational fam trips to ensure their sales team can sell Royal Museums Greenwich effectively.
  • Represent Royal Museums Greenwich at Travel Trade events and exhibitions in order to increase sales.
  • Work with colleagues across the Museum including Bookings, Front of House, Finance, the ticketing System team understanding the impact of Travel Trade across these areas. To work with these departments to deliver travel trade income targets.
  • Support the Admin Assistant to ensure all invoicing occurs in a timely manner and support finance in this effort to achieve this.

 

Skills and Experience

Essential experience

  • Substantial experience in travel trade sales, gained ideally within the UK visitor attraction or tourism sectors.
  • Proven successful experience in sales and business development.
  • An excellent working knowledge of the travel trade environment and strong existing relationships within the industry.
  • Strong proven experience of analysis of sales and market data, reporting on performance, and using market research to inform successful strategy.
  • Demonstrable experience of initiating and brokering business partnerships and joint ventures
  • Proven experience of successful budget management.
  • Educated to degree level or above.

  • Excellent IT skills relevant to the role. 

Desirable:

  • Professional marketing qualification.
  • A relevant language (ideally French, German or Spanish)

 

Terms and conditions

Net working hours (i.e excluding 1 hour per day rest breaks) will be 36 per week, core hours Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm, with an additional hour to be worked in agreement with line manager.

Some out of hours work for travel and attendance at events will be required.
