About the Roles

We are seeking to expand our newly formed, exciting and dynamic Front of House team who are responsible for making our visitors feel part of the V&A’s growing family and placing them at the heart of the museum. On a day-to-day basis they work together, playing an important role in how the V&A warmly welcomes all its visitors, ensuring access to collections is inviting and illuminating by sharing their passion and expertise. Team members use their specialist skills to actively support the museum’s income streams by promoting initiatives such as donations, gift aid and Membership as well as helping visitors find a perfect memento of their day in our gift shop. We are looking for the right candidates to join our team as they engage with visitors delivering a sector-leading experience showing generosity and willingness to guide and inspire visitors through their museum journey.

The Roles and Schedules

We are seeking staff to join our Visitor Experience Operations, Visitor Experience Sales and Welcome, and Retail teams. Please be aware that we are looking to recruit people who will be happy to work across any of these roles as we cannot guarantee any preferences will be met. The schedules we are looking to fill are:

  • Full time 36-37.5 hours/ average 5 days per week: Full flexibility required across Monday – Sunday. Several roles available.
  • Part time 24 hours/ average 5 days per week: Full flexibility required across Monday – Sunday. Several roles available.
  • Part time 20 hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday. A few roles available.

Essential Criteria:

  1. Can react confidently and sensibly to new or changing situations; managing and prioritising multiple tasks, and feeling empowered to do so.
  2. Has outstanding communication skills, is comfortable sharing and passing on knowledge to others and can tailor delivery style as required.
  3. Is a proactive, approachable, visitor focused individual, a people person with an ability to interact positively with both staff and visitors alike
  4. A reliable, punctual, and trustworthy team player who understands the importance of working as part of a large, dynamic team to achieve common goals

Desirable Criteria

  1. Has significant experience of working closely with the public or with customers/visitors in a role offering sales, service, or assistance
  2. Has experience working in a visitor or customer facing role in a high-end or high-footfall environment
  3. Has experience of working in a museum or visitor attraction

  1. Please state which is your first preference in terms of hours per week. If you are open to several options, please state this also. 
  2. Describe a time when you were working in a high-pressure environment: how did you manage your time, what was your role and how did you resolve any issues that arose?
  3. Describe a time when you have used your knowledge of a subject to deliver a presentation/ talk in person. How did you acquire this knowledge and how did you present it to your audience to inform and inspire them?
  4.  What key interpersonal skills do you believe would be essential for this role and how would you deliver them to provide an outstanding visitor experience?
  5. Describe a time when you worked as part of a team to overcome a challenge. What was your role in the team, what was the challenge and what did you learn from the situation?
