Role purpose:

ShelterBox strives to deliver outstanding information systems and technology service that will maximise our fundraising and operational capability.

The Head of IT is a business enabler to an organization seeking to ambitiously serve people made homeless by disaster around the world. The key focus of this role will be to project manage the review, adaption or replacement of existing core business systems in order to better support future strategy.  The role will also lead a team to supporting IT service users throughout the organisation both in the UK and overseas and ensuring business continuity and protection against cyber security threats. The role will ensure that technology infrastructure and business systems provide efficient, flexible, and secure IT Service that supports agile business decision making of the organization.  The role leads an infrastructure team and development team.

 

Who are we looking for?

ShelterBox has grown rapidly in recent years and is in the process of setting a new 5-year strategy. Its business systems have not kept pace with that change, nor are they fit for purpose for the future in all applications. So we are looking for a senior IT professional who has extensive experience of leading on ERP requirements gathering, selection and implementation projects.  The candidate also must be an IT all-rounder to lead a general purpose IT delivery service. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong and proven IT managerial, strategic, and operational track record that will help make a real difference both to the way we engage with our supporters and deliver aid to the families that we support.  Strong project and vendor management skills would be highly regarded as would current knowledge of the ERP market and the relative merits of different applications.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Management of the IT Team and the delivery of the IT Service, Information and Technology projects and strategies.
  • Assess business requirements and current business systems and procure software to address any gaps, including business analysis, tendering, project management and vendor management.
  • Develop and implement the organisations’ information and technology strategies in line with the organisation’s requirements including how data reporting optimally integrates into and informs business processes.
  • Ownership, development, and management of IT service budget and special project budgets in line with the organisations’ financial management processes.
  • Engage with all departments, services, and the international teams to define their information and technology requirements and assist them to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Ensure highest standards of cyber security in the UK and overseas to ensure effective systems are in place both to protect against and to monitor for potential or actual data loss or security breaches.
  • Contribute strategic input into cross cutting information and technology projects including a transparent IT project management board process (PMO).
  • Oversee project implementation and benefit realisation reviews with timely regular reporting to stakeholders.
  • Develop and communicate policies and guidelines required for the use of information systems in alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Any other duties as required which are deemed appropriate to the level and grade of the post.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and developments.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to IT staff and foster teamwork ensuring all activities are within the charity’s aims, objectives, and values and in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all risks are appropriately managed for your area of responsibility including but not limited to, keeping the Risk Register up to date, conducting risk assessments.
  • Represent ShelterBox in any capacity as required;
