Diversify our future

We are building a brand that represents the people of the world. It’s what you do that counts, and we are always looking to expand perspectives and voices to shape our future.

We see you, we celebrate you, we want you!

The team

The Earthcare team is a dynamic and passionate team with people in service to different parts of the business, from Retail to Manufacturing and Finance to Buying. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have a strong ability to self-manage, organise priorities and communicate well. You will participate with your peers in helping shape the company’s sustainability strategy and be part of a fast-paced learning environment. You will be mentored by the Earthcare Retail Lead and the Utilities Lead, and report to the Earthcare team as well as working closely with other Retail Support teams (Facilities, Maintenance & Design) to make sure goals and strategies are well-communicated and aligned.

The Role

Our use of energy and water is a main contributor to our impact on the world around us. Eliminating waste in all forms will be vital to achieving our environmental goals as a business.

This intrinsic role is key to supporting the Earthcare team in gaining and maintaining necessary insights into Lush Retail’s energy, water and waste usage with a view to facilitating best practice. You will be liaising directly with shop teams to collect and report on data, as well as coordinating environmental initiatives and identifying training opportunities alongside fellow members of the Earthcare team.

This role will be key in supporting Lush UK&I in achieving our utilities and waste reporting requirements and identifying ways to reduce our environmental impact, ensuring we are working towards our vision of Leaving The World Lusher Than We Found It. In Retail, we can deliver a positive impact upon 105 locations across the UK&I but we need resources to make it happen.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive our business forward and would suit someone looking to develop their professional journey as a leader of business for good!

Responsibilities:

Net Zero - Utilities

  • Working directly with Lush’s UK&I shops and our Utilities Lead to review and catalogue all environmental initiatives across the Retail portfolio. Scope the budget and timescales required to align all stores to the same specification in collaboration with the SSP and Maintenance teams
  • Scope missing metering sites for electric/water and arrange installation where appropriate
  • Review and report monthly utilities and emissions data via Pilio
  • Identify opportunities in the data for engaging with shop staff on behavioural ideas they can implement to improve the shops’ environmental performance
  • Identify opportunities and priorities in the data to improve our appliances, assets and fixtures in communication with the Maintenance and SSP teams
  • Ensure staff are trained on best practices for all appliances in their stores to ensure energy and water efficiency
  • Track and deliver energy reduction targets each year (a 5% reduction is £30,000 for UK Retail electricity)

Zero Waste

  • Liaising with Lush UK&I shops and the Earthcare Retail Lead to maintain and develop waste and recycling databases
  • Using data and reports to identify key areas for waste-reduction opportunities
  • Facilitating national Retail waste strategies such as Weigh the Waste Week and individual shop waste & recycling contracts

Skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to read and digest large sets of numerical and written data
  • The ability to create insightful overviews from complex data
  • Able to demonstrate a passion for environmental best practice through behaviour change
  • Experience in engaging individuals and groups into action
  • A passion for developing the Leaving The World Lusher Than We Found It vision
  • Confident working independently and to defined deadlines

Desirable:

  • Experience/strong understanding of Lush Retail
  • An understanding of the requirements for achieving Net-Zero under SECR and ESOS compliance
  • Knowledge of key environmental concerns surrounding retail businesses
  • Experience in the fields of environmental best practice, utilities maintenance, waste reduction or similar educational background
