The role:

To meet our vision of achieving far-reaching, progressive change and impact through learning, we are seeking to recruit a dedicated and hard-working Learning Support Assistant to join the Group Learning Support team based at our City of Oxford College Campus.

Group Learning Support works with young people who face barriers to education, including learners with special educational needs and those with an EHCP.  This post provides an excellent opportunity for someone with enthusiasm and who is committed to enabling our students and providing the support needed in order to ensure that they can achieve. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with teachers to raise the learning and attainment of students while also promoting their independence, self-esteem and social inclusion
  • Helping students understand and undertake set tasks in an appropriate way including note taking and supporting with literacy and numeracy
  • Ensuring accurate individual student records are maintained
  • Contributing to a well organised, purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued

We offer a friendly and supportive working environment, where no two days the same, staff are valued and CPD is provided. 

This is a full time (term time only) role, working 37 hours per week, 08:30 – 17:00 with a 16:30 finish on a Friday. 


What do you need to be successful 

The ideal candidate will be resilient, adaptable and patient.  You will be able to provide support to students with a range of difficulties such as Dyslexia, Autism and associated difficulties; some of which are complex and can include challenging behaviour.  You will have good communication skills to be able to work with tutors to ensure the delivery of an effective programme of further education and to work as part of a team.  The ability to use your own initiative, a desire to innovate within the learning experience and the ability to adapt flexibly to the changing needs of learners are essential.  You will demonstrate experience of using teaching and learning strategies to motivate and engage learners to progress.
