We are currently recruiting for the post of Assistant Curator in the Museum of Childhood.

The Museum of Childhood (MoC) in Bethnal Green is part of the V&A family of Museums and the UK’s National Museum of Childhood. It is the largest institution of its kind in the world; its mission is to explore the Child’s world through art, design and performance and to hold in trust the nation’s childhood collections.

It holds the foremost collection of childhood material in the UK, comprising over 35,000 objects ranging from the 16 th century to the present day. It has a broad reach, covering all aspects of childhood and is also rich in the diversity of its media. The collections include: dolls’ houses; games; toys; dolls; puppets; examples of children’s own creativity, works of art, photographs, design for children, children’s clothing and furniture.

As a member of the MoC’s curatorial team, the Assistant Curator provides curatorial support to the Museum’s Collections Team and to Museum projects, and liaises with central V&A Collections Services teams (Conservation; Technical Services; Photography Services; and Documentation and Collections Management Services). Assistant Curators spend their time working on object-related activity and maintaining documentation which is relevant and integral to the Museum’s collections management policy. Assistant Curators should have a strong commitment to public access, and the post holder will deal with enquiries from the public - written, by telephone and in person.

The range of tasks undertaken by Assistant Curators varies considerably at different points of time but it is the Museum’s intention that Assistant Curators should gain as wide an experience of curatorial work as possible. At the MoC, the Assistant Curator will be expected to contribute intellectually and practically to the development of the Museum’s new galleries.

Please note that the V&A is unable to sponsor visa applications.

Closing date for applications: 26 February 2018

Interviews will be held week beginning 05 March 2018.
