Are you interested in leading a new high profile service for Greater Manchester working with a supportive and successful team?  Are you seeking a role where you can make a real difference to Greater Manchester’s new Cycle Hire Scheme?

Transport for Greater Manchester oversees transport in Greater Manchester, delivering and improving transport services, facilities and information to make travel easier for everyone.  We deliver high-profile, large-scale transport projects, and it’s our experts who provide the information and analysis to shape transport strategy. This is a busy and exciting time for us: under the devolution agreement and with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity in the UK’s largest regional economy outside London.

A new Cycle Hire scheme is coming to Greater Manchester later this year. Therefore we are seeking an experienced professional to oversee the operation of the service and lead on its future expansion.  The procurement of a service provider for Phase 1 of the scheme is nearing completion.  Phase 1 of GM Cycle Hire will see a docked system installed in the Regional Centre in Manchester, Salford and Trafford with aspirations to expand the scheme throughout GM.

This will be a prominent role in Greater Manchester, providing you with opportunities to work alongside the Mayor’s appointed Transport Commissioner Chris Boardman and be part of the successful Cycling and Walking team at TfGM making a fundamental difference to how people move around Greater Manchester in the future.

This is a busy environment where you will have the chance to grow and build upon your existing knowledge and skills.  You will be working with a forward thinking organisation which is pushing the barriers to transform lives and the economy of Greater Manchester

As the Cycle Hire Manager you will be responsible for managing the contract with our chosen supplier, measuring performance, maximising value and ensuring continuous improvements.  You will be required to co-ordinate a range of supporting activities from stakeholder and community engagement, marketing and promotions and sponsorship opportunities.

You will have extensive experience in a senior management role, leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex operations, projects, work plans and to meet key objectives and have excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build and manage relationships across a wide stakeholder group.  You will also be educated to degree level in a relevant subject or hold equivalent experience.

The salary for this role is £51,252 - £57,688 per annum.  Salary on appointment will be dependent on your skills and experience.  In return, as well as a competitive salary, we also offer a range of fantastic benefits, such as:

  • Free Rail or Metrolink to and from work within the Greater Manchester boundary
  • Free bus travel within Greater Manchester
  • 27 days holiday per annum
  • Access to the local government pension scheme

At TfGM we encourage candidates to discuss flexible working options at any stage of the recruitment process.

We welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.  We are actively building a diverse workforce and want to create an inclusive environment as we recognise the importance of our workforce reflecting the communities we serve.

If you are excited by this role, have the required skills and experience and believe you can contribute to our continued success we would really like to hear from you.
