We have an exciting opportunity to join the Cairngorms Connect Partnership. The Communications Officer will work across the Partnership to tell the stories of this wild landscape in the making, driving support and engagement, locally, nationally and internationally.

Based in Aviemore, with other possible office locations across Strathspey. Flexible working (i.e.part time hybrid home-based) also considered.

What's the role about? 

Would you like to use your communications skills to support the UK’s largest ecological restoration project? Fancy working with inspiring people across the Cairngorms Connect Partnership to tell their stories of a wild landscape in the making?

We are looking for a new Communications Officer to join the Cairngorms Connect support team, a small, dedicated team supporting the delivery of the Cairngorms Connect 200-year vision for ecological restoration.  

You’ll be part of a dynamic team working across the Partnership Area, seeking to engage key local, national and international audiences with stories of our landscape-scale habitat restoration work, to drive support and understanding.  

You will be responsible for supporting development of our communications strategy, and for planning, creating, and delivering engaging communications, including social media and digital content. You will be able to effectively integrate with teams working across the Partnership Area, to uncover and promote stories which build support and understanding for our work.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  1. An understanding of how to achieve objectives through communications campaigns and PR techniques.
  2. Demonstrable experience of developing stories and messages form briefings or background information on a wide variety of topics.
  3. Experience of working on social media accounts for an organisation
  4. Able to work to tight deadlines.
  5. Multitasking.
  6. Able to summarise complex information and provide impactful copy and content.
  7. Relevant content creation skills e.g video/audio editing, photography, graphic design.
  8. Ability to communicate in a clear manner at all levels (written and verbally) to develop shared understanding 


Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  1. It would be desirable (but not essential) to have experience of working in Partnerships and across functional disciplines.
  2. It would be desirable (but not essential) to have experience of working in or with the media to sell and/or tell stories.

This is a one year Fixed-Term role for 37.5 hours per week due to finish at end of December 2023.

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

Part time hybrid remote working considered, although in-person travel around the Cairngorms Connect area will be required.
