This is a great opportunity to utilise your organisation skills and play your part in saving nature! We are looking for a part-time (7.5 hours a week) Reserves Administrator to support the running of two RSPB nature reserves in Gloucestershire, Nagshead and Highnam Woods. You will work alongside the Site Manager, Assistant Warden and volunteer team and will be based out of the reserve office in Parkend in the heart of the stunning Forest of Dean.

What’s the role about?

You will be responsible for managing organising the reserve office, liaising with the Site Manager and Assistant Warden to ensure the office and reserves are efficient, effective, inclusive and safe places to work.

A key part of the role will be to provide comprehensive administrative support, including the administration of financial processes such as raising invoices and purchase orders, organising and maintaining materials and equipment, fleet vehicle administration, booking meetings and working with and supporting volunteers.

It will be important to build and maintain effective relationships with people, both internally and externally, ensuring that complex confidential and sensitive matters are handled appropriately, so that all contact is professional, and RSPB is represented in a positive manner.

You will be joining a network of administrators who support the various different teams within RSPB England, collaborating with this group to upskill, share learning and best practice via peer group meetings, all-England Admin gatherings and on our team SharePoint site. Due to the dispersed nature of the England team, the majority of our meetings take place virtually via Microsoft Teams.

The way we use our offices is changing, with more people opting to work from home for part of the week, so the way we manage our offices needs to be ready to adapt to suit our changing needs.

Although you will be based at the RSPB Gloucestershire reserves office, many aspects of the role can be carried out remotely so there is flexibility to work from home on occasion.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (especially Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of document management and team collaboration tools.
  • Knowledge of budget management terminology and processes.
  • Organisational and time management skills.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences whether by phone, email or in person.
  • Able to organise meetings and events and coordinate all aspects of the meeting or event logistics.
  • Able to make the best use of time particularly when under pressure from competing priorities, prioritising and delegating tasks effectively, during periods of both low and high demand.
  • Experience of working in an office or customer care environment in and administrative role.
  • At least 5 GCSE’s, including Maths and English.

Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Interest in and knowledge of conservation and the natural world.
  • Experience of working with volunteers.

While your role will mainly focus on the running of the office and supporting the reserves, we are looking for someone who is willing to work flexibly and be ready to support the RSPB England team in other ways as and when needed. We need to work at pace to tackle the nature and climate crisis and our administrative support is a key part of this.

We are committed to making our organisation diverse and inclusive and are keen to encourage applications from people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities.

Please note that in order to be considered for this post you will be required to complete an online application form. Before applying, we would encourage you to read through the candidate guidance notes attached to the top of this advert.

Interview Date: 22 September 2021
