With a new Leader of the Council and an ambitious five-year plan, it’s an exciting time for Barnet. Based in our brand-new Council offices in Colindalethis role will be integral in communicating how we are delivering for residents across the whole range of local government services.

The team
The Strategic Communications and Campaigns team serves as an in-house agency that supports the Council through creating and delivering evidence-based campaigns and strategic communications in priority areas. From providing communications advice to planning and executing high-profile campaigns, as well as producing the Council’s quarterly magazine and ensuring our digital channels are on point, the team plays a crucial role in effectively with residents, workers and businesses based in the borough. As a UNICEF partner, there is also an exciting agenda on transforming how we communicate and engage with Children and Young People.

The Communications Coordinator will support the effective delivery of the Council’s children and young people communications strategy, transforming the way the Council engages with its younger audiences. The role will also support the delivery of public health communications campaigns. As well as aiding campaign delivery, the role’s other responsibilities include preparing content for the council’s magazine and e-newsletter, and providing administrative support, where necessary. 

The candidate
We are looking for someone developing their career in public sector communications, ideally with a similar background. The ideal candidate will have worked on B2C campaigns and have a good grounding in multi-channel communications techniques. They will excellent organisational skills, have creative flair, be an effective communicator and have a precise eye for detail. 

Key responsibilities                                    

The People Communications Coordinator will be expected to:

  • Implement tactical campaigns in support of delivering the People portfolio with a clear focus on implementation of the children and young people (CYP) strategy
  • Monitor campaign impact and produce evidence-based performance and evaluation reports for internal clients
  • Take a lead in developing CYP campaign content, managing the logistics of production and delivery; liaising with external suppliers to ensure quality and deadlines are met
  • Audit LBB-wide communications for compliance with CYP best practice, providing feedback to clients, and compliance reporting for UNICEF
  • Develop engaging written and visual content for a wide variety of channels aimed at different audience, including print material and digital channels
  • Manage systems and processes to aid effective running of the service, including financial, contract management and administrative support where necessary
  • Take ownership of content scheduling for communications channels, including the digital hub, newsletter and poster sites negotiating with colleagues across the council
