Milton Keynes College Prison Services Team at HMP Swaleside are seeking efficient and flexible individuals to help support their education provision. You will be a team player, with a high standard of verbal and written communication. There are various duties for non-teaching staff, vital to supporting the learners to achieve and the staff to meet their expected delivery.

 

The potential support roles that would require covering fall within our admin and LDD (learning difficulties and disabilities) teams. These duties would include filing, paperwork, data handling, working with awarding bodies to register learners and claim certificates, supporting action plans and induction screening and more.

 

In terms of working pattern/cover hours - these would fall between Monday to Thursday - 8.25 hours for full days (8:00 to 17:00 with a 45-minute lunch) and Friday mornings - 4 hours (8:00 to 12:00), so you would need to be available within these times.

ABOUT HMP Swaleside…

Swaleside is a category B Long Term High Security prison for males. It is located on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent with an operational capacity of 1112. Core values include building a rehabilitative culture and reducing re-offending. Swaleside has a broad education curriculum with future plans for growth.

The curriculum at HMP Swaleside is broad. The prison delivers Functional Skills Maths and English, ESOL, Mentoring, Multi-Skills, Business Studies, IT, Employability, Nutrition, Art, Food Safety and Catering, Music, Radio, Science and Creative Writing. The prison is also hoping to expand the education curriculum in the future to include outreach services to the CSRU and workshops.

The education regime is 8.15am – 11.30am and 1.45pm – 4.30pm Monday to Thursday. Fridays are 8.15am – 11am.

The education department consists of spacious classrooms with excellent facilities, the environment strongly reflects a college rather than a prison.
