City Academies is our new exciting, innovative community outreach programme that we are piloting in London, focussing on the Olympic Borough’s. As City Academy Coaches you will set up and run a number of City Academy Hubs developing them into sustainable Clubs in targeted communities improving access and inclusion for all, with the overall aim of changing the face of cycling, creating a lifelong love for the sport.  

City Academy Coach, London (FTE)

The role of a City Academy Coach is all about:

  • Engaging young people in cycling activity in local schools and community settings with a focus on fun, progression and development
  • Working to engage underrepresented groups in cycling including those not currently physically active, those from disadvantaged areas, women & girls, Ethnically Diverse Communities, and Disabled People.
  • Taking positive steps to identify and overcome barriers to participation amongst participants from disadvantaged backgrounds, prioritising access and inclusion
  • Creating a sustainable, accessible network of new City Academy community hubs and clubs
  • Identifying and working with community champions, engaging them in community activity, and providing them with learning and education opportunities to develop skills and lifelong learning
  • Identifying talented young people, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills to be the best they can be
  • Being an Ambassador for the City Academy programme, working closely with a number of stakeholders to help shape the delivery and maximise the impact

What do we offer?

As well as a great starting salary, we will provide the support you need to deliver coaching sessions in schools, clubs and throughout the local community, with the flexibility and freedom to use your initiative to create accessible, inclusive and exciting cycling experiences for riders at all levels.  The role will initially be offered on a fixed term contract to April 2023.

You’ll work with the City Academy project team to come up with ideas to appeal to participants in your local areas, like local come and try events, community hub coaching sessions and entry level racing opportunities. In return for delivering consistent results, you’ll receive the opportunity to learn and develop, as well as exciting opportunities to broaden your role and potentially move around the organisation.

What you need is:

We are keen to hear from passionate coaches that are excited by this opportunity. A current UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Cycling qualification is desirable, but not essential, as training can be provided.  This is a profession which is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check will be required.
