Full-time, fixed term appointment for 3 years 

The Department of Vector Biology is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work on genomic and transcriptomic evolution of mosquito insecticide resistance.

The successful candidate will work with and Professor Martin Donnelly and Dr David Weetman on genomic and transcriptomic variation underlying resistance to insecticides used for Anopheles malaria vector control in Africa, and to map the predictive value of diagnostic markers. The post holder will conduct fieldwork in Kenya under the supervision of Dr Eric Ochomo (Kenya Medical Research Institute and Honorary Fellow at LSTM) together with bioinformatic analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data sets.

You will liaise with external partners, produce reports, prepare and present results at scientific meetings and consultations. You will be encouraged to help support project partners from disease endemic countries and supervise postgraduate students, collaborating on their project analyses. You will also be opportunities for involvement in projects on other disease vectors, and development of other research projects to support fellowship applications will be encouraged in this position.

To be successful, you must hold a PhD in a relevant area such as genetics, ecology, evolutionary biology or biological computing. You must demonstrate experience in bioinformatics, molecular genetic laboratory work and field studies. Previous work on insecticide resistance will be advantageous. Your proven ability to communicate and collaborate with specialists from a variety of disciplines is as essential as your ability to work independently and within a team, with good organisational skills.
