The purpose of the role is to:

You will ensure the efficient management & technical performance of James Fisher (Shipping Services) Ltd (JFSS) fleet of vessels, promote a strong safety culture throughout his/her team and onboard the vessel, hold responsibility for the safe management of operation and pollution prevention activities of all group owned and managed vessels, taking all reasonably practicable steps to prevent injury to personnel or damage to the environment arising out of company activities, drive a culture that adheres to the Group’s purpose and valued behaviours, promote excellence and lead by example, lead, manage and mentor the technical team and provide the technical team with a clear vision for future achievements. You will also ensure that the commercial requirements of the fleet are met, and down time is minimised as far as practicably possible. In collaboration with the Divisional MD, develop and implement strategies for all the five Group stakeholders

Role and Responsibilities

People

  • Manage and mentor JFSS Technical Team
  • Establish technical objectives and assign targets to team members
  • Monitor, manage and evaluate the team members’ performance and ensure team members are provided with development opportunities
  • Identify, mentor and harness talent within the technical team
  • Collaborates with the Crewing team in relation to the performance of the company’s sea – going staff

Shareholders

  • Responsible and accountable for the management of JFSS Technical Team 
  • Responsible for the technical performance of the fleet
  • Oversees all aspects of technical operational and running costs ensuring that the fleet is run in a cost-effective manner without compromising safety
  • Prepares, manages and oversees the annual budget for the technical team
  • Sets technical KPIs for the fleet and ensures that the KPIs are achieved
  • Ensures that vessels are maintained in Class at all times
  • Monitors the effectiveness and operation of all technical company policies detailed in the safety management system.
  • Identifies additional resources needed for the establishment, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the safety management system within the technical team.
  • Establishes and implements maintenance and repair procedures so that all vessels in the fleet operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
  • Oversees and ensures the efficient implementation of the fleet PMS
  • Oversees the implementation of control measures for critical equipment.
  • Ensures that sound maintenance, auditing and inspection regimes are implemented.
  • Oversees the preparation of dry dock / repair specifications and authorises dry docking and major repair accounts.
  • Oversees the defect reporting system and ensures that it is implemented efficiently.
  • Oversees the purchasing process and ensures that it is optimized.
  • Oversees the benchmarking of the fleet’s technical performance
  • Supports business development
  • Oversees H&M and P&I claims and ensures the optimal submission of claims
  • Oversees technical incident investigations
  • Ensures that all new building and technical projects are implemented in a cost efficient and timely manner
  • Key member of the emergency response team

Customers and Suppliers

  • Ensures that the fleet is maintained acceptable to oil company standards
  • Ensures that vessels are prepared for vetting inspections
  • Ensures that the technical team and fleet meets TMSA requirements
  • Ensures that Group’s policies regarding supplier relationships are implemented
  • Oversees the implementation of all initiatives regarding the Division’s supplier strategy

Environment

  • Ensures that the fleet is managed in an environmentally sound manner
  • Oversees all pollution prevention activities of the fleet
  • Ensures that the fleet complies with all environmental regulations and requirements
  • Oversees the implementation of the Division’s environmental strategy within the technical team
  • Oversees the benchmarking of the fleet’s environmental performance

Local communities

Participates in all initiatives related to the Division’s strategy regarding local communities, as required

Required Experience

  • Extensive experience as an officer within an Engineering, Nautical Studies Background or in a supporting Naval Architecture background.
  • Previous Ship manager / Superintendent / Nav Arc experience within a tanker environment.
  • Fleet Manager or as a member of a Senior leadership team within a tanker company organisation.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with tanker crews and the associated OCIMF requirements.
  • Nothing less than an excellent proven safety culture track record and passion to continually drive best practice safety culture.
  • Must have previous experience and total ownership of Vessel OPEX and CAPEX budgets.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experienced in a senior role within a Superintendent and Fleet manager role.
  • Degree or Industry recognised marine based qualification in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or Nautical Studies.
  • Must have the right to live and work in the U.K.
  • Must have a full U.K. driving Licence or other means of transport
