CNC Machinist
Malton

The CNC Machinist activities span the following key areas: Production of machined parts by planning, programming, setting up and operating both manual and CNC machines: Continual Improvement and Safety. you will maintain high quality standards including keeping records, maintain equipment and supplies

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Production

  • Plan machining operations by reading works orders, engineering drawings, specifications and other work instructions
  • Resolving issues or queries with drawings or other work instructions
  • Programming CNC lathes and milling machines
  • Proving programmes and other first-off operations
  • Setting and operating both manual and CNC machine tools
  • Ensuring accurate routing data and other issues are recorded
  • Organising and maintaining both tools and the working environment to achieve efficient operations
  • Working with the Shift Team Leader to continually push machine operations for the best productivity

Continual Improvement

  • Ongoing assessment of machining processes and procedures to identify and implement improvements
  • Identifying new working methods, tooling or other systems that may improve efficiency
  • Identify Lean and 5S opportunities

Safety

  • Knowledge and understanding of hazards, PPE requirements and emergency procedures
  • Responsible for house-keeping of allocated work areas
  • Promote adherence to JFN’s Health and Safety Policy, for example:
    • Reporting near misses and accidents
    • Point of work risk assessments and method statements

Quality

  • Adherence to JFN’s manufacturing processes and procedures to support consistency and quality of manufacturing work
  • Work with Production Engineer(s) and Inspectors to resolve quality issues
  • Complete self-inspection and measuring of components prior to final Inspection


Key Skills and Competencies

  • A wide range of precision machine shop skills and experience
  • A thorough understanding of engineering drawings and dimensional/geometric tolerances
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • General competency in computers, CNC machine programming and computer-aided manufacturing tools
  • A commitment to continuous improvement
