About Downing International Programme
 
Since establishing Downing’s International Programme in 1998, the portfolio of academic activities has expanded to offer international students aged 15-18 a high-quality International Programme experience. 
 
Cross-disciplinary learning is at the core of the International Programme’s mission. The programme is designed as an enriching academic experience delivered through lectures, workshops, and cultural experiences.
 
The programme is split into the following sub programmes; Foundation Summer Programme (15-18) and Advanced Summer Programme (15-18), held at Downing College, Cambridge. 
 
The programmes will run on the following dates:
  • June Programme (Advanced only) - 7th June - 20th June 2026
  • A - 12th July - 25th July 2026
  • B - 26th July - 8th August 2026
  • C - 9th August - 22nd August 2026

Details of the role
 
The Downing College International Programme are seeking current Postgraduate students studying their PhD or conducting their postdoctoral research within the University of Cambridge to join us as Academic Tutors for the 2026 International Programme courses.
 
This role will include curriculum development and academic instruction. The College will be recruiting Academic Tutors for the following subjects:
  • Education and Psychology
  • HSPS & Law
  • Mathematical Sciences
  • Engineering
  • Physical Sciences
  • Economics
  • Biological and Medical Sciences
  • Arts and Literature
It is anticipated that post holders will work independently developing the curriculum and teaching material for the course.
 
Curriculum Development
 
Academic Tutors will be responsible for planning well-structured and engaging lessons tailored to the Downing College International Programme’s curriculum.
 
Returning Academic Tutors will be expected to spend 15 hours on curriculum development, utilising resources from the previous year, and will be paid a flat fee of £500 for their work.
 
New Tutors will be expected to develop course material over a total of 40 hours and will be paid a flat fee of £1,500 for this work.
 
Curriculum development must be completed by 4th May 2026, with Academic Tutors expected to finalise all course details by 30th April 2026.
 
Teaching
 
Academic Tutors will be required to work 1.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, repeating every two weeks as per the Programme schedule. Classes will accommodate 10-20 students, running Monday to Friday between the hours of 9.30am and 5.00pm.
 
The rate of pay for this role is £100.00 per hour.
 
It is expected that Academic Tutors will be available between 8th June and 21st August 2026 and will start one day prior to the International Programme start date as an induction day.
 
There will also be a lunch arranged before the end of the Easter Term to meet the International Programme Director, Dr Kamran Yunus.
