ABOUT US

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity.  We want to see a world where trees and woods thrive for people and nature. The Trust engages and inspires people  to make their difference tackling the nature and climate crisis helping protect, restore and create our vital woods and trees.

THE ROLE

The Legacy Officer will proactively manage a varied case-load, corresponding directly with solicitors and personal executors in a sympathetic and professional manner.  They will be responsible for ensuring that the Woodland Trust receives its full entitlement in a timely manner, whilst protecting the Trust’s reputation and adding value to gifts, where possible.

The Legacy Officer will ensure legacies are allocated to restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with the Will. Whilst closely monitoring case files on a regular basis, the Legacy Officer will take appropriate action to move cases through to completion as smoothly and quickly as possible.

This is a Hybrid working role, where you’ll work part of your time at home and part of the time from one of our regional offices. Our Hybrid Working Policy is very flexible and the frequency of time spent in your contracted office will vary across teams and job roles.

THE CANDIDATE

You will be comfortable handling a case-load of specific, residuary legacies and life interest matters. You will manage your own time and case load effectively and your administration skills will be excellent. You will have an excellent track record of building productive relationships with other departments and team members.

You will be comfortable working with supporters and their families to ensure that the value of legacies left to the Trust is maximised.

To be successful in this role you will have proven experience and ability to deal with legacy or estate administration and the laws of Wills, Probate, Tax, Trusts and Probate. The role requires someone who can demonstrate tact, diplomacy and be empathetic. The role is busy, but we are fun, dynamic and you will always feel fully supported. We actively encourage learning and development.

WHAT TO EXPECT BY JOINING A TEAM AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE

There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Joining the team you will be making your contribution to tackling the nature and climate crisis. In return, we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with a contributory pension, life assurance, good holiday allowance and the opportunity to work flexibly from home.

OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

At the Woodland Trust, we believe everyone deserves to have their lives enriched by trees and woods.

We also believe that our organisation should reflect and represent the full richness of human diversity in terms of background, identity, ability and circumstance. As groups of people currently underrepresented as Woodland Trust employees, we are particularly keen to receive your application if you are Black, Asian or minority ethnic, disabled or under 25. We are measuring our success in redressing this.

We are open to discussion of any adjustments or flexible working arrangements you may need to achieve your full potential at any stage of the process, and if you are successful in gaining a position with us, during employment.

We promise the only thing we assess within your application is how you have demonstrated your suitability for the job, and nothing else.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy before the closing date should we receive a suitable volume of quality applications.
