Bangladesh Community Outreach Worker – Tower Hamlets

£27,648 - £31,142 per annum

37.5 hours per week

We’re looking to recruit a Bangladesh Community Outreach Worker to join the St Mungo’s Street Outreach Response Team (SORT), whose objective is to end rough sleeping in Tower Hamlets. The multi-disciplinary team includes eight staff plus an Accredited Mental Health professional; student placements; volunteers and peer volunteers.

The successful candidate will lead in engaging people rough sleeping from the Bangladeshi community and in developing key partners in the community in order to support the prevention ethos. The post-holder will also support the general work of the team in carrying out assessment of needs/risk and local connection, data recording, case conferencing, advocating and asserting expectations. This will include assessing rough sleepers for engagement or diversion, undertake reconnections from the street or move people into local services as per entitlement and assessment of need following short-term hostel placement protocols.

We’re looking for someone who is proficient in written and spoken Bengali, in order to engage with and communicate complex issues. You will have experience of working with vulnerable people and an understanding of the needs of street homeless people, including those with mental health and/or substance dependency problems. You will also have demonstrable experience of motivating people with complex and diverse needs to sustaining housing, health and/or work outcomes.

Flexibility is required as the post is based on a seven-day rota.
