Our award winning Discovery and Learning Team is central to our visitors’ experience at the zoo. The team engage our visitors with our plant & animal collection and our worldwide conservation work through a range of diverse, fun and exciting educational experiences.

We are on the search for 2 Seasonal Zoo Rangers to join our team to deliver fun, engaging, educational activities with the general public around the zoo.

 

The Role: 

This is a varied role which includes interacting with visitors of all ages including children, families and other audiences. This includes one-to-one engagement, group educational activities and exhibit supervision. Our audiences can range from 1 to 500 visitors or more. There is lots of public interaction, requiring adaptability and a confident and outgoing personality. Engagement out in the zoo will include talks, activities, play based activities and managing animal walkthroughs (bats and lemurs).

The successful candidate will have:

  • A sound knowledge of conservation, ecology and biology
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of different audiences in a playful manner
  • The ability to adapt content to different audiences and respond quickly and prioritise in a fast paced, changing environment
  • A dynamic and creative mind along with confidence in performance of stories, shows, games and interactive engagement
  • Skills in the use of all key Microsoft packages and preferably Apple technology
  • Excellent time management and planning skills
  • The ability to work effectively under their own initiative and as part of a team with a positive attitude
  • Excellent customer service skills


Experience of working in the zoo education field as well as knowledge of Chester Zoo’s animal collection and conservation work would be an advantage.

Due to the nature of the organisation and the role, this position is subject to an enhance DBS check.

This post is for 9 months commencing February 2020, working 35 hours per week, 10 days in 14. This will include weekends and Bank Holidays as rostered, and may include evening work. Working hours are flexible around zoo opening hours and extra events.
