HMP Spring Hill’s education department are looking for an experienced Business lecturer / tutor / teacher to deliver Business to a diverse group of learners within the prison. This is a part time opportunity.

As a Lecturer within our Milton Keynes College Prison Education team you will help to develop a strong Business programme that meets the needs of the learners, prison and Milton Keynes College.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated lecturer / tutor / teacher to deliver high learner success, through effective teaching and delivery in Business. This vacancy would suit a highly motivated Business teacher, with a can do approach to education. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and creative lecturer, who can thrive upon working within a challenging yet rewarding environment, who can offer skills & knowledge to our learners and guide them throughout their courses.

Location: HMP Spring Hill, Buckinghamshire, HP18 0TL
Hours: 15 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Salary: £18,015 - £32,578 pro rata

About HMP Spring Hill & Grendon:

For many of the staff employed to work at HMP Spring Hill, they also have an opportunity or are required to teach at HMP Grendon (less than two minute walk between sites).

HMP Grendon is a unique Therapeutic Category B national prison housing approximately 220 long term, prolific (re)offending adult males.

The Education Department works closely with our prison colleagues to deliver relevant long courses that help prepare learners for employment and positive community living upon release. Courses include: English and Maths Functional Skills (Entry 1 to Level 2), IT, Business, Barista, Horticulture, Cleaning, Personal Social Development skills and Family/Parenting. Education runs 4 afternoons (Mon – Thurs) from 13:45- 16:45. During the mornings the men are involved in therapy work with a wide team of clinical and officer staff on the wings.

HMP Spring Hill is an Open Category D (resettlement) prison, housing approximately 320 male prisoners who are at the end of their custodial sentence and working towards resettlement. Residents at Spring Hill are considered low risk and are well underway with rehabilitation and resettlement. Courses at Spring Hill are as above, with additional vocational courses such as Carpentry, Plumbing, Professional Cookery, Customer Service and Bookkeeping and CSCS. Education runs from 8:30 – 11:30 Monday to Friday and 13:00 – 16:00 Monday to Thursday.

As a successful candidate, you will:

• Hold a relevant qualification (level 3 or above).
• Hold a recognised teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) or willing to work towards
• Hold relevant assessor/verifier awards.
• Have teaching/training or vocational experience in relevant subject area and relevant up-to-date knowledge.
• Have a proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of learners through nationally accredited programmes.
• Have experience of identifying, developing and sharing innovative and creative teaching resources
• Have experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
• Have knowledge of current curriculum and accreditation developments within Further Education and specific subject area(s).
• Have the ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of a variety of learners and willing to explore new teaching and learning strategies.
• Have good IT skills and willing to develop further.
• Show accuracy and precision in written presentation.
• The requirement of this role is to work across the whole prison estate, on all wings where education is delivered.
