HMP Birmingham are seeking a passionate and creative IT Lecturer / Tutor / Teacher to join the education team within the prison.

As an IT Lecturer you will be working with a diverse group of learners within the prison. This opportunity will be both challenging and highly rewarding. You will need to be an innovative and imaginative individual who is able to engage with the learners, helping them to achieve success within the ICT courses.

The ICT courses will consist of subject areas including Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Web Design and Adobe software. You will be tutoring classes up to level 2.

The ICT courses are an important part of the curriculum for learners, they will be able to apply their skills and knowledge to sustainable employment upon release as well as for use within other subject areas. As a dynamic and highly motivated individual with excellent ICT skills, you will use your experience and knowledge to support and inspire learners. Helping them to develop confidence, skills and experience and achieve ICT qualifications.
As a valued member of the Milton Keynes College Offender Learning team, you will also help to develop a strong ICT programme that meets the needs of the learners, prison and Milton Keynes College.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated lecturer / tutor / teacher to deliver high learner success, through effective teaching and delivery in ICT. This vacancy would suit an ICT teacher, with a can do approach to education, who can offer skills & knowledge to our learners and guide them throughout their courses.

Location: HMP Birmingham, B18 4AS
Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Salary: £18,015 - £32,578 per annum

About HMP Birmingham:

Milton Keynes College operate on three sites within HMP Birmingham, East Education, West Education, and Vocational Training workshops, offering education to both mainstream and vulnerable prisoners.
The education department is made up of a 7 person management team, overseeing 4 strand areas, Functional Skills, Vocational Training, Personal and Social Development and Outreach. We offer Functional Skills in both Maths and English, ESOL, IT, Business, Hospitality, Barbering, Sports and Fitness, Employability Skills, Kick Start in Business, Art, Hospitality, Mentoring, Interpersonal Skills, Equality and Diversity, Electrical, Bench Joinery, Plastering, Car Valeting, Waste Management and Industrial Cleaning. We offer courses from Pre Entry right through to Level 2.
Education Programmes are developed in partnership with the prison to offer a responsive and relevant curriculum, which includes work experience and work opportunities within the Establishment.

As a successful candidate, you will:

Hold a relevant qualification (level 3 or above).
Hold a recognised teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) or willing to work towards
Hold relevant assessor/verifier awards.
Have teaching/training or vocational experience in relevant subject area and relevant up-to-date knowledge.
Have a proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of learners through nationally accredited programmes.
Have experience of identifying, developing and sharing innovative and creative teaching resources
Have experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
Have knowledge of current curriculum and accreditation developments within Further Education and specific subject area(s).
Have the ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of a variety of learners and willing to explore new teaching and learning strategies.
Have good IT skills and willing to develop further.
Show accuracy and precision in written presentation.
The requirement of this role is to work across the whole prison estate, on all wings where education is delivered.
