Youth Justice Liaison & Diversion Worker (Band 6 mental health nurse or equivalent)

An exciting career opportunity has arisen for a full time enthusiastic and energetic Youth Justice Liaison & Diversion Worker from a mental health nursing background to join Barnet’s Integrated Clinical Services (BICS). BICS is a strong, friendly, dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary service and is the main provider of mild-to-moderate mental health services for children and young people in London Borough of Barnet. You will be seconded in the Youth Offending Service where your primary role will be to carry out initial mental health needs’ assessments of children and young people detained at the local Police Station with the view to identify their current needs and signposting/refer accordingly. You will also be involved in delivering brief evidence-based individual and group interventions under clinical supervision.
The role will require a clinician who has experience of psychiatry/psychology liaison and/or experience with mental health assessments and interventions that considers many emotional, psychological and behavioural vulnerabilities (e.g. a varying level of psychological distress, substance misuse, suicidal risk, risk of exploitation, gang activity, challenging behaviours, and neurodevelopmental difficulties).
You will liaise with partner agencies, such as Specialist CAMHS, forensic colleagues, community and voluntary services. This role would be particularly suited to a driven individual with a passion for making a difference and for further developing skills within a YOS and mental health setting with children and young people.
We value and encourage your continuing professional development and will support you with experienced clinical supervision from the forensic psychologist based within YOS, oversight from the BICS Clinical Social Care Team’s clinical manager and plenty of training opportunities. You will be part of the wider BICS Clinical Social Care Team and participate in regular team meetings and case discussions in addition to YOS meetings.
There will also be an expectation for some flexible working to meet the needs young people detained at the local Police Station eg available for some early evenings and some weekends.
