Intellectual Property at Owen Mumford:

Owen Mumford has an embedded culture of utilising the intellectual property system to grow its business, both through the development and commercialisation of its medical devices and through the sharing of its patented technologies with others.

The growth of Owen Mumford’s medical device product portfolio and the increasing relevance of intellectual property issues to the progress of the business requires of the Intellectual Property Department that it offers an even greater range of services, including those of an in-house Patent Attorney, in order to provide the highest level of support to the company. This advertised role is a replacement for the current in-house Patent Attorney.  

In addition to having an in-house Patent Attorney, Owen Mumford has invested in a full time Intellectual Property Portfolio Manager to liaise with inventors, to deal with portfolio management matters and to ensure regular communication with external Patent Attorneys. Having a portfolio manager in place provides the Head of Intellectual Property with the opportunity to maximise utilisation of their attorney skills so that significant value can be added to the intellectual property portfolio and to Owen Mumford as a whole.

Owen Mumford’s commitment to serious investment in its intellectual property provides the Head of Intellectual Property with the resources that enable:

(i) continuous development of its intellectual property strategy, ensuring alignment with Owen Mumford’s business strategy and the requirements of Owen Mumford’s customers, in order to keep up with the evolution of the medical device market;

(ii) close communication with Owen Mumford’s Research and Development department in order that Owen Mumford’s intellectual property is identifiable at the earliest opportunity; and

(iii) close communication with Owen Mumford’s Sales and Marketing Department in order that their commercial needs are satisfied.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who is a fully qualified UK and European Patent Attorney. Experience of working in an in-house intellectual property department is desirable, but not essential.
