The Victoria and Albert museum is inviting applications from UK-based, mid-career studio ceramicists who wish to develop their practice in new ways through working with the V&A’s collections. We are interested in practitioners who will work in a critically informed way, with a focus on developing innovative public engagement activities.
Since its inception 10 years ago, the ceramics residency has had the privilege of hosting a vast array of practioners during various stages in their career. In light of the decline of students persuing careers in the creative industries, we wish to invite experimental proposals that create exciting interactions alongside ceramic practice that continue to illuminate the potential and opportunties careers in the arts offer. Proposals should be ambitious and inspiring – pushing forward the boundaries of contemporary creative practice that will inspire, provoke and inform our diverse range of audiences.
Applicants must have significant experience in professional practice (minimum 5 years), know how to use a kiln, and be able to demonstrate ongoing development in their practice through a track record of innovation and the regular exhibition of new work.
The residency will take place at the V&A South Kensington in London over a nine-month period from 14 October 2019 to 13 July 2020. The V&A will provide a £12,000 bursary and a studio space within the Ceramics Gallery.
Applicants should have an interest in developing their practice and a good track record of producing and performing high quality work. We will consider applications from collectives as well as individual practitioners.
Interviews will take place on 26 June 2019.
