To be eligible for a work placement in the V&A Conservation Department, you must either be a student enrolled in a conservation training course at the time of your placement, or have completed a conservation training course and be able to secure external funding.
Student Work Placements
The V&A Conservation Department offers placements to students enrolled on recognised conservation training courses. The placements provide an opportunity for students to gain work-based experience working alongside the V&A’s conservators. Work placement students can expect to work on a variety of work-based assignments that may include interventive and preventive conservation, as well as administrative tasks and research projects.
Externally-funded Internships
The V&A Conservation Department also takes on externally-funded interns who have completed a recognised conservation training course. Due to strict legislation, we regret that we are unable to accept interns who are not externally-funded. Please note, this is an unpaid position.
Applicants should note:
- The applicant should have completed a relevant conservation training course.
- Provisional offers are dependent upon the applicant successfully securing funding from an external organisation.
- Funding must be sufficient to meet the National Minimum Wage requirements as set out by the UK Government.
- The duration of the internship will be dependent upon the amount of funding secured, as per the National Minimum Wage requirements.
Two references should be provided and are mandatory. These can be from your previous employer, sponsor, or tutor from your current educational establishment.
Placements are based on availability throughout the year and successful candidates will be contacted directly.
