Who we are
London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) is the organisation that the Mayor of London has set up to drive the regeneration of the area of east London around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

This means that we do many different things, from building new homes, schools, universities, cultural institutions and business premises; to managing a beautiful Park and fantastic sporting venues; to running community events and sports programmes.

To do all this we work with our wider family and use our shared resources across our group.  Your role will therefore be central to our mission as an organisation as well as the other group organisations.

We are making Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the vibrant communities surrounding into an attractive and inspiring place where people come together to achieve great things; a place where local talent is celebrated and the benefits of regeneration can be shared by all; and a place that attracts investment, improving local lives as well as driving national economic growth.

More than 34 million people have visited Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park since it reopened after the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. An additional 40,000 jobs are expected to be created on the park by 2025, plus 33,000 new homes in the wider Stratford area by 2036, including the London Legacy Development Corporation’s developments at Chobham Manor, East Wick, Sweetwater, Pudding Mill, Bridgewater, Stratford Waterfront, Rick Roberts Way and Hackney Wick.

The London Legacy Development Corporation is also entering into an exciting period with the construction of the East Bank project – a new powerhouse of culture, education, innovation and growth – which will create sites at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for Sadler’s Wells, BBC Music and the V&A as well as UAL's London College of Fashion and University College London.

Who we’re looking for
We are currently recruiting for a Design Principal to join our Design Team for a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract to cover an internal secondment.   This is a key senior role supporting our colleagues in our planning authority, the Planning Policy and Decisions Team (PPDT).

The Design Principal will lead the design advice service on major third-party applications within the LLDC area.  This will involve directly managing two employees and working closely with colleagues in the wider design team, from landscape and inclusive design specialisms, to ensure consistent design reports are produced.

This will provide senior level support to the Director of Design and ensure that an effective service is delivered to PPDT.

Who we are looking for
You have will have worked in a similar senior level role, within which you will have provided architectural, urban and sustainable design advice on complex and significant planning applications, preferably in a similar context. It is expected that you have worked at the different stages of the application process, from pre-application, to negotiating conditions and S106 agreements, through to discharge of those obligations.  Any experience of working on planning appeals is also welcome.

You will have managed the delivery of this type of service, developing scopes of service and tracking these through planning performance agreements.  It is expected that you have line management experience with demonstrable people management skills.  You will also be able to evidence how you have ensured consistency of advice across several team members, often from different teams.

You will have demonstrable experience of working with local authority planning teams and providing advice to planning committees and other panels, including design review and providing design advice to policy colleagues.  It is expected that you will bring practical experience of leading and managing the design of large scale, complex architectural, urban design and master planning programmes and an understanding of how budget, viability and programme issues can affect the eventual delivery.

You will ensure all projects meet the Legacy Corporation’s priority themes, particularly compliance with high quality design, and deliver against the business plan objectives and long-term regeneration vision.
