RSPB Bempton Cliffs is situated on the east coast of Yorkshire between Bridlington and Scarborough, and is the UK’s largest mainland seabird colony, a wonderful nature reserve in a spectacular clifftop setting. Puffins, gannets and thousands of seabirds provide a stunning spectacle in summer, and in autumn and winter nowhere is better for a bracing walk and views of the Yorkshire coast. The Visitor Centre has a successful café and retail offer, and there are family events and educational activities. We are a popular tourist destination and attract over 115,000 visitors per year and your role as cleaner is vital to help keep our visitor centre in high condition. What’s the role about? We are looking for a new cleaner, who will be responsible for the cleaning of the offices and visitor centre at RSPB Bempton Cliffs. We are a popular tourist destination and we’re keen to keep the facilities cleaned to a high standard and ensure all visitors enjoy their visit. You’ll follow directions from the Visitor Commercial Manager who sets your work programme, and you’ll feedback any issues on site or low stock levels. Main duties will include: - Vacuum cleaning and mopping floors
- Cleaning the visitor toilets
- Check stock levels of cleaning materials
- Dusting and wiping desks
- Cleaning high touch points such as doors, handles, switches and mirrors
What we need from you? Essential skills, knowledge and experience: - Knowledge of the use of cleaning products to ensure products are used in a safe and appropriate manner
- An understanding of colour coding cleaning tools and avoiding cross contamination
- Understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace and manual handling
- Good time management skills
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to see from a customer’s point of view
- Ability to transport cleaning products around the offices and visitor centre
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience: - Experience of cleaning offices or a commercial environment
- Some experience of cleaning busy public environments
- Being able to work as a team, and cover holidays and illness where possible
This is a part-time, permanent role; working a 2 hour shift (preferable out-of-hours) which will include weekends and bank holidays. The shift pattern will depend on candidates availability, but there will be a baseline of 208 hours per year, with additional hours available during peak season, totalling 370 hours hours per year. We would envisage that the work pattern between Mar-Aug (6 months) you will be working an average 8 hours per week. For the remaining 6 months (Oct-Feb) this will be halved at an average of 4 hours.
