Instrumentation Technician
Various locations and levels required
Permanent positions available

The Company:
Strainstall is a world-leader in the development, installation and servicing of data monitoring solutions to enhance the safety and performance of ‘assets’ – be they bridges, skyscrapers or vessels. Over the past 60 years, we have installed our equipment on some of the most prestigious assets in the world, from centuries old to new-build, to measure data including temperature, vibration, sound, tilt, friction, strain and wind.
Strainstall is a specialist engineering company and we’ve been part of FTSE company James Fisher & Sons plc since 2006. We are a leading provider of specialist services to Civil Engineering, Renewables, Oil & Gas and other high assurance industries worldwide.

After a period of consolidation of six business units across the world (UK, Middle East, SE Asia), we are now positioning ourselves for further growth by hiring more talent to come on the journey with us.

Job Purpose:
We are looking for Instrumentation Technicians to join the team on a full-time permanent basis. Working across our sites, new starters would be based out of our Warrington or Bristol offices.
A core part of the role is visiting our client sites – be they Victorian bridges and buildings needing monitoring or repair, or some of the country’s newest and most prestigious bridge projects. The role may also potentially include some offshore (wind turbines) and international travel.
The Instrumentation Technician role is a great way to get to know the business and the industry as a whole. You’ll get a hands-on view of everything from: how sensors are designed and built; problem solving how to install monitoring equipment in some of the world’s most challenging locations; and how, and why, monitoring assets is so important and why this sector is growing so quickly.

In terms of potential next steps beyond this role, our previous Instrumentation Technicians have gone on to: senior Commissioning Engineer roles; more research-based Engineering roles; Project Management roles and General Manager roles of our offices here in the UK and abroad, so it’s a great stepping stone to growing into a larger role, if that’s what you’re looking for; we also have Technicians who have been with us, and are valued in that role, for many years. We have also seen some of our team leave us (yes, that’s allowed!) after 3-4 years to join successful players in the wider Engineering sector - and they sometimes even come back!

You will be responsible for supporting delivery of projects in the office and in the field and the support in the build and test of our equipment. The safe delivery of site works to install equipment and be able to work as part of the team to install our structural health monitoring software and systems in a variety of environments, some more challenging than others.
Safe delivery of scope in line with agreed scope and Project Manager / client expectations while reporting progress on jobs in a timely and professional manner.

You will have the following knowledge, skills and experience:
Interest and/or a basic understanding of the fundamentals of sensors and monitoring systems, their design and installation and the ability to support testing of equipment.

Above all, we’re looking for people who are aligned with Strainstall’s valued behaviours:

·    Pioneering spirit

·    Integrity

·    Energy

·    Resilience

If you think you're a good fit for what we're looking for, then we want to hear from you!! Complete your application and submit your CV to us now.

James Fisher & Sons are committed to taking positive action on diversity and we strongly encourage applications from candidates from all backgrounds and as a Disability Confident employer we are committed to offer an interview to disabled candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the role.
