Are you an engineering or planning professional, keen to challenge yourself in a demanding yet diverse role which offers the opportunity to protect and enhance the largest light rail network in the UK? Would you relish the opportunity to use your experience to influence positive change for the network and our customers through working closely with stakeholders including Local Authorities, the Metrolink Operator, developers and TfGM’s award winning Disability Design Reference Group?

TfGM oversees transport in Greater Manchester, delivering and improving transport services, facilities and information to make travel easier for everyone. We deliver high-profile, large-scale transport projects, and it’s our experts who provide the information and analysis to shape transport strategy. This is a busy and exciting time for us: under the devolution agreement and with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse and with the delivery of the Major Projects, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity in the UK’s largest regional economy outside London.

Greater Manchester is embarking on an exciting period of transition and evolving with a growing population and economy, with public transport central to providing new connectivity. TfGM’s vision is to have “World class connections that support long term, sustainable economic growth and access to opportunity for all”.

This role will give you the opportunity to grow and build upon your skills and experience in a varied and challenging environment. You will influence the delivery of schemes which meet stakeholder expectations and enhance the customer experience.

In this role you will be responsible for the management and delivery of Approvals and Consents for Metrolink development through liaison and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders in accordance with implementation programme priorities. You will also co-ordinate technical responses to planning application consultations affecting the Metrolink network, working closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to consider and mitigate any risks to operation and identify any opportunities for improvements. You will be the accessibility champion within the Metrolink function and work with our Disability Design Reference Group to resolve any operational or infrastructure related accessibility issues promoting continuous improvement.

You will be a highly motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail. You will be familiar with the planning and physical requirements for a light rail system including engineering, architectural and accessibility issues. You will also ideally be knowledgeable and have technical competence in civil engineering and have an appreciation of transport planning within a light rail environment.

The salary range for this role is £48,759 - £54,882.  Salary on appointment will be dependent upon your skills and experience.

As well as a competitive salary, TfGM offers you a range of benefits, such as:

  • Free rail or Metrolink travel, to and from work
  • Free bus travel within Greater Manchester
  • 27 days holiday per annum
  • Access to the local government pension scheme
  • Continuing professional development.

At TfGM we encourage candidates to discuss flexible working options at any stage of the recruitment process.

We welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.  We are actively building a diverse workforce and want to create an inclusive environment as we recognise the importance of our workforce reflecting the communities we serve.

If you believe you can meet our requirements in this exciting and challenging role, we would really like to hear from you!
