Curriculum Team Leader

Mathematics

MPS/UPS + TLR1.2

Required for September 2021

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding leader of Mathematics, who has the vision and determination to raise student outcomes across the faculty.  The successful applicant will ideally be responsible for teaching and leading Mathematics across KS3, 4 and 5 including the provision of A level Further Mathematics and AS Core Mathematics in the sixth form. You will be joining a strong and rapidly developing and forward-thinking team of staff across the school that are committed to continuous improvement.

This post has arisen due to the promotion of the current curriculum team leader to maths lead across the Spencer Academies Trust, who leaves the faculty in an incredibly strong position. Attainment and progress has remained strong over time, and we are now looking for a leader who is passionate about further transforming achievement in mathematics across all key stages taught. We have a consistently large number of students who continue to study A-Level mathematics and a small but committed number of students who choose to study Further mathematics. Our A-level provision is also supplemented by Core Mathematics where uptake continues to flourish. We also enjoy great success in the UK Maths Challenge, both the individual and team competitions. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader who is ambitious for both the team of teachers and all students who attend our school.

We teach using a mastery approach and benefit from strong links from the Spencer Academies Trust, the East Midlands West Maths Hub and the University of Nottingham; these networks mean the successful candidate will benefit from excellent continued professional development from the mathematics community but also from with the school’s successful CPD structures too.

The successful candidate will:

  • provide inspirational leadership so that all students make exceptional progress
  • create and sustain a positive department culture, where staff feel collectively supported and developed
  • be an outstanding, passionate and highly motivated teacher with a proven track record of examination success across key stages 4 and 5
  • analyse progress and attainment data to make data-driven changes to curriculum design, and pupil interventions
  • develop innovative schemes of work which are inspiring for learners and teachers alike and feed into standards bases assessments
  • play an integral role in the development of our middle leadership team as we advance on our journey to outstanding

Our school ethos of ‘Aspire, Learn and Achieve’ permeates throughout everything we do and is a shared vision that every member of the school community is part of.  We insist on the very highest standards for all of the students in our care.  This is an exciting time to join our school as we embark on a capital build programme which will result in a new purpose built centre for our expanding sixth form.

As part of the Spencer Academies Trust, we work alongside other schools in ensuring we deliver the very best education possible.

The Spencer Academies Trust exists to make sure that every child, regardless of background, has access to an outstanding education and real choices in life. Our core values of Aspiration, Responsibility and Partnership reflect our vision and aim for all Trust schools.

We believe:

  • All children have a right to a quality education regardless of background or ability, and have an entitlement to the opportunity of a secure progression route in their learning and development.

  • We grow the effectiveness and sustainability of our schools by developing the people within them, and believe that through shared and equitable responsibility for quality and outcomes, we achieve more
