Sales and Events Executive

Reports to: Senior Sales and Marketing Manager

Job purpose:

This role will work as part of the Sales and Events team to actively grow and develop the venue hire business within Royal Museums of Greenwich five award-winning venues (National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, Royal Observatory, Peter Harrison Planetarium, Queens House). 

Through excellent product knowledge and exceptional customer service skills, this role will assist in securing annual revenue targets of £1.2m+.  Delivering over 200 a year in venues with capacities from 10-1000, events include corporate receptions, private parties, weddings, product launches, award dinners, summer/Christmas parties, meetings and conferences.

It is an exciting time to join the Royal Museums of Greenwich as with plans to further develop outdoor events (team building, festivals, parties) in the extensive museum grounds, a brand new suite of meeting rooms and exciting private dining spaces, this role requires someone who is experienced in dealing with high profile corporate, private and experiential clients. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work with the Senior Sales and Marketing Manager to deliver the annual sales target.
  • To provide initial account management and pre-event planning services in accordance with museum operational guidelines.
  • To act as the first point of contact for all sales enquiries by telephone and email.
  • Prepare quotes and send out relevant information to potential clients, ensuring all leads are followed up.
  • To arrange and conduct site visits of the venues with prospective clients and suppliers.
  • Prepare and issue event and filming/photography contractual paperwork for confirmed bookings.
  • Collaborate on ad hoc marketing activities to include social media content generation, blog posts, showcase events
  • Record all events enquiries using the events database (Priava); ensure all bookings are updated on the central diary and electronic records management system.
  • With support from the Team Administrator manage the financial administration for your events.
  • Attend regular networking/promotional events and trade shows.
  • Work with accredited suppliers obtaining and checking their sales collateral and offers.

 


Skills and experience:

Essential

  • 2-3 years’ experience of working in an event/venue sales environment
  • Passion and desire to work in the events industry
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload according to changing business demands and deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Confident and experienced user of the following IT software – MS Excel, Word, Outlook and social media platforms.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of working at an historic site or an understanding of unique venues.
  • Experience in using Priava Events Perfect IT software would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of risk assessment with knowledge of Health, Safety, Risk and Legal

Terms and Conditions:

Core hours of work will be 36 hours per week (i.e. excluding 1 hour per day in rest breaks), Monday to Friday. The role will include evenings and weekends depending on operations and requirements.

Salary:  £23,000-£30,000 per annum
