Post: DT & Art Technician

Responsible to: Faculty Leader for DT/Art

Grade: 3

Hours:  20 – 30 hours

Role

Under the direction of the Faculty Leader: provide technical support to meet the needs of the Design Technology and Art Faculty. Under the direction of the Principal carry out academy maintenance duties in the proportion of hours set aside and aggregated for this purpose.

This job description sets out the main duties and responsibilities of the post. Although responsible to the Principal/Premises Manager, on a day-to-day basis you will report to the Faculty Leader for DT/Art.

Main Duties: 

  • Preparation of Rooms, Studios or Workshops
  • Ensure all apparatus, equipment and materials are prepared or for students’ use as requested by teaching staff.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to teachers and students, assist in practical activities as appropriate.
  • Where appropriate ensure all labels referring to safety hazards are fitted correctly.
  • Ensure all items are in good working order and in cases of malfunction arrange repairs through the established procedure.

 

  • Clearance of Rooms, Studios or Workshops
  • Put away apparatus, tools and equipment after classes and other activities, check for malfunction and arrange for repairs through established procedure.
  • Wash and/or clear away equipment as necessary.
  • Dismantle apparatus, equipment, etc and store away.

 

  • Maintenance and Repair
  • Carry out regular checks and where possible minor repairs/adjustments on all workshop equipment and tools.
  • Arrange annual equipment maintenance checks and service of laser cutter from outside services.
  • Maintain and keep records of apparatus, equipment and materials
  • Maintain stock levels of apparatus and materials and re-order as necessary through the established procedure including keeping stock records and carrying out stock checks.
  • Check deliveries and invoices and refer any queries to suppliers or Administrative staff, as appropriate.
  • Ensure that all equipment, materials, apparatus, tools and machinery are kept in their designated places and that appropriate statutory Health & Safety and security measures are observed.
  • Ensure that Health & Safety regulations and relevant legislation are observed.


Decisions Made:

The majority of decisions expected of this post are taken within the well-established procedures, policies and routines. The postholder is expected to recognise variations from the accepted patterns, missing documentation or other unusual aspects and, if appropriate, bring them to the attention of the Faculty Leader.

 

NOTE:  The duties and responsibilities of this post may vary from time to time according to the changing demands of the academy.  This job description may be reviewed at the reasonable discretion of the Principal in the light of those changing requirements and in consultation with the postholder.  In any event the Principal reserves the right to review and amend the job description.
